Thought I would show off my custom built AR15 that I made to be as light as practical. The result is a 5 lb 1 oz (without magazine) carbine that shoots and handles great!

Yes, the Lower is a Cav Arms MkII. The Upper Receiver is a Bushmaster Carbon-15. Both are plastic.

That is very cool indeed. Is it in foilage green with olive mag? I didn' like the foilage green color at first, but think its growing on me.

Everything is "Dark Earth" except the Cav Arms Lower which is Coyote Brown (which is their closest match to everyone else's Dark Earth).

Isn't that one of those super illegal plastic guns terrorists use to get though metal detectors like the famous Glock 9?

That looks like just the AR need now that I've learned the hard way that gravity increases with age by a factor of 10.

Very similar to a concept rifle I'm planning out, but with some differences...

- RRA 16" midlength superlight barrel
- DPMS A3 slickside upper
- Single-rail gas block with MagPul front and rear sights
- PA Micro
- Norgon ambi mag release
- Ambi charging handle
- Standard lower
- Ambi selector
- ACE Ultra-Lite stock
- MagPul MOE grip, hanguards, and trigger guard
- Basic black nylon sling
- Black furniture

The five requirements behind it are light weight, simple, rugged/reliable, accurate, and fully ambidextrous. I can't go with a Cav lower, as they're impractical to obtain, and I'm not sure about the ergonomics.

I'm fully jealous of you, though. Fine rifle. :)

Nice rifle for the goal. Not my goal but certainly done well and looks like something that would be as pleasant as it gets to carry around all day long.

Question: Why not stay with the original Bushmaster Carbon lower...? Isn't it just as light as the Cav Arms lower.....?
