She's been mulling over several different choices for a .357.... First, it was a S&W Model 686P 4" or a Model 27 4". Then she found the 686SSR 4", and the 627 Pro 4"..... but the Model 27 was still in the running.

The counter-help at my favorite gun-store mentioned that Taurus has the same basic thing as the Model 686, in that they've got 7-round capacities and all....

But then way down in the bottom corner of the display case, she saw a Rossi Model 972 .357 w/ 6" barrel, 6-shot, stainless steel.... and it called her out. So it happens that the revolver fits her little hands perfectly, she loves the fit & finish, sights, and the DA/SA trigger pull felt comfortable to her... Sold!

She's gonna range-test it today, and that'll be the first time we've gone shootin' together! :D

And as it happens, a stainless .357 is an awesome accessory for black fingernails. :D

Now hurry up with the shootin!

It must be contagious, my wifes 1st handgun was a Stainless Security-Six .357mag with Pachmayer Presentation grips.

My wife's first handgun was a 4" S&W 66 in .357, her second was a 3" S&W 65. Then she learned about semi autos and it started getting expensive:(

She says that even with full-power .357 Mags, the Rossi is very controllable, with .38 Special it feels like a pop-gun, and it's super-easy to shoot & hit things (I had set targets from 10-25yds). Also she mentioned that it's the "perfect not-snubby revolver for someone like her without big guy-hands" because of the light-weight, grips and balance.

Throughout the entire time we were at the range she had a big ol' grin on her face, and though it has a 6" barrel, she carried it all day in a Gould & Goodrich open-bottom (w/ thumb-break) belt holster that I had laying around which happened to fit the Rossi prefectly. The G&G has a sharp FBI cant, and she wore it behind her hip (almost behind the back). With a long jacket it only printed when she bent over to waist-height, and she could draw it very quickly without any snags. All in all, she's thrilled with it as her first wheelgun, and is completely sold on them. She says that even though it's not a Smith & Wesson, she doesn't think that the Rossi was in any way a compromise (besides price :) )
She also learned that the Rossi Model 972 is basically a S&W K-frame, the only difference being different screw hole location for the grips.

We took tons of pictures, and she's working on them so I can post up here later.

Cool...now she can play the "Now i just need a 4" to round out the collection" game that all of us are stuck in. Of course the gun that you "need" to round out the collection always changes as soon as you leave the gunshop with your latest purchase. :D

I labored whether to get a 4" or 6" .357.......went with the 4" but i know i'll pick up an 6" Ruger GP100 to go next to the 4" one i've got.

Let me get this straight..........you're MARRIED to this woman, and you two had never gone shooting together? What did you two do on dates, go dancing? I must have different priorities.........both my wives and most of my girlfriends enjoyed a casual first date at the nearest shooting hole. If they didn't want to go shooting, I knew there was no future there. In fact, I've got my eye on a lady here at work, and we're going out for the first time this week...........to teach her how to shoot! :)

BTW, nice choice on the Rossi. I think they're one of the great unsung bargains, new or used.

My wife's first handgun was a S&W 627PC (.357 Mag). Her second gun was a S&W 640 (.357 Mag). I think there might be something to girls and .357 Magnum...

When we were dating, we generally worked on our Full-Size Jeeps, went 'wheeling, or went tromping about the woods.

Yeah, I've come to think so too. After we were done shooting for the day, she was itching to go buy more ammo.... in bulk, and head out to the range again ASAP. I think I've created a monster. :D

Here's some pictures she & I took, and a few videos. Keep in mind she's never used a revolver, or a speed-loader before.... so ya'll cut her some slack, m'kay? ;) :D

Nah, it ain't the Grand Canyon... Just Colorado. :p :D We got Pikes Peak in the background for ambiance.

a Goth chick with a gun....makes me happy to be a man!

youre so lucky, now how is she gonna carry that thing concealed? dont answer that here, i was just saying.....LOL.

I'm not too familiar with revolvers, and I've never seen one fired at night before this.

After much thinking, we're both wondering if that much cylinder-blast is excessive, or if it's normal due to the magnums she was firing.

BTW, she sez that if ya call her "Goth" again, she'd not hesitate to kick ya in the jimmy.... repeatedly. Learn your subcultures better.... :p :D

The flash from the cylinder gap is normal, most people never see it because it's so quickly gone. A bigger gap makes for a bigger flash, and the powder used can make a difference as well. Reloads with slower powders would make for more flash out front, less from the gap.

As for her "Look", I don't think I'd willingly irritate her, gun displayed on not. She has that "Don't Mess Wit Me", kinda attitude. And that's NEVER a bad thing. If she said she was gonna kick me ANYWHERE, I'd take her at her word! ;)
