We're at the local gun shop a couple of days ago. It's pretty sad really. The offerings in the cases are few and far between these days. As I glance into one case thought, something catches my eye. A 2020 Python, with a 4" barrel. I've already got two 2020 Python's, one 6" the other 4" but this is the first one I've actually seen out on the counter.

I asked to see it out of curiosity. A nice gun as expected. Trigger is better than the 4" I already had. The grips are darker, but that's normal. What I do note is the S/N. PY205XXX. My 4", which I bought about a year ago, is in the <5600 range. Man Colt has been churning these things out. The price while a little higher than I think the MSRP (1700 vs 1500) is, was nowhere near what I hear people are paying for them. Of course these days, there is no wiggle room, especially on a NIB gun.

I hand it back as my wife comes up and as always asks what I'm looking at. I told her, then handed it over for her to see. As always she asks if it's OK to dry fire. The clerk tells her it's OK. She dry fires it a couple of times. Her face lights up. "Are you going to get it?" I told her I've already got one. "So? I don't have one." <sigh> OK. If you say so.

So "we" are now the proud owned of another "4" 2020 Python. I suppose there are worse things she could have asked for.

You see one of these things I guess you've seen them all, but I hear "pics or it didn't happen."

I didn't say they were good pictures. Will she ever shoot it? I don't know. She doesn't shoot much anymore, but she's talking about wanting to go to the range Saturday, if not later today. She shot my 6" Python last year and liked it, so she might fool me. Good thing I've got plenty of 38/357 ammo loaded up.

Beautiful gun, the grips, not so much.

To me they look like glorified plywood. Why doesn't a gun at that price have solid walnut grips like the originals?

Regardless, hope your wife enjoys it!

I on the other hand love the "new" grip. I like the muted color against the "white" stainless steel. I admit on a blue gun, it might not work. The shape is better for me also. They did away with that ridiculous swell at the base a lot of old grips had, and it's more straight line now. They fit my hand better than any other grips with the possible exception of the wood "target" grips Taurus used on their guns back in the 90's or so. They also did away with the cheese grater checkering that made my hand hurt just holding the gun, not to even mention shooting it. The checkering now offers a secure grip without ripping skin.

Your wife sounds just like my wife. If she likes a gun that I bought for myself, she will ask why she doesn't have one even though she does not shoot that much. I don't complain when she wants something "we" already have.

Maybe, but I don't think there are many "better" things your wife could have ask for.;)
My wife is sort of the same way about guns. However, I can't think of any of my wife's guns that are identical to guns that I have. It's just that when I get a new gun, my wife generally gets a new gun for herself before too long, and vice-versa. That practice is why we don't have a large savings account, much less money to "invest" for our children's retirements, or some such things.
BTW, as I've mentioned before, my wife and I will be celebrating 50 years of wedded bliss next month. It's been a rather expensive 50 years, but darned well worth it!

Jeez. My wife glares at me if we so much as drive by a gun store.
That's a shame.
The only thing I don't like about going shooting with my wife is, she's so much better a shot than I am and she makes it look so easy. She doesn't really practice, just picks up the gun, loads it, points it downrange and fills the center with dots until it's gone. She'll do that with two or three targets then she's done and ready to go home. Meantime, I'm trying to figure out where the tenth round went... :(

Please refer to my sig line.....
Exactly and Amen. I came into this world naked, bloody and fighting for breath, possessing nothing but the will to survive and protected only by the Grace of God. I won't be ashamed to go out the same way.

My personal definition of "wealth" is not what you can call "typical." Some will disagree. They always do. ;)

Man, I’d love for my wife to say something like that! Nice pick up at the gun store... and you really have an amazing find who met you at the altar .

Congratulations on the new Colt...and the spouse :).

Stay safe.

Congratulations on a fine purchase and I guess we could say his and hers. :)

My scenario is different. I collect the Colt Series 70 guns. When I am looking at one my wife ask "do you have one of those"? She is well aware I have a bunch of them but I always reply "yes honey, but not with this serial number". :) Then I normally buy the gun.

Enjoy the new Python.
