Actually, I never set out to buy a ported 1911 for self defense. I had just returned to the States last summer and I think I found it at the first gun show I went to. I had read about the V10 years ago when it came out but hadn't seen one. This one was used and in good shape for $499 so I snatched it up. After making sure it was reliable, I started carrying it. The short barrel and Officer's frame make it very easy to carry. The ports keep recoil to a minimum. Even with 185gr JHP+Ps it's easy to shoot.
Advantages: Small, light, easy to conceal, easy to carry and low recoil. All good stuff for a carry gun.
