I just purchased a NAA mini and I plan to carry it as a BUG and use my Smith 637 as a primary. I was wondering, what is the best defense load for these little guns? I know that a .22lr is not even close to maginal as a defensive round, but as a second gun it has a lot of appeal. Is it better to go with Stingers or a heavier load like the 60 grain Aguila and get a little better penetration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given the short barrel, you may not wish to go with a heavier slug as a defebse round. Heavier slugs will typically need longer barrels to get up to higher velocity. The short barreled NAA mini already has something of a velocity problem with regular weight slugs. Using a heavier round from a short barrel will exacerbate the problem further.

Check the NAA website. As I recall, they have chrono results for a few different loads from each of their pistols.

Gun: .22 Long Rifle NAA Mini-Revolver, 1 1/8" barrel

Training and getting used to the gun:
CCI Long CBs.
These allow one quality practice, with less felt recoil in getting familiar with using the gun.

Ammo:
Like any other firearm, reliable feeding is critical and these too can show 'preferences' as to what they shoot best for POA/POI.
Granted these guns are built like a Swiss Watch, and I have never had a problem with one, nor has anyone I know.

Winchester X22LR is one loading that no matter what it is fired out of, it runs, shoots from good to best POA/POI.

CCI , anything from standard 40 gr to Mini Mag works great!
In the old days, CCI was hard to get locally and therefore the Win load was used.
Now, I use a lot of CCI.

Yep so far just solid LRN bullets

Federal Bulk Pack, the 36 gr JHP - is a sleeper in regard to always going bang and shooting POA/POI.

Dynapoints. Win standard pressure JHP, is a good load, if you can find them.

Main deal is with rim-fire, ammo needs to go "bang".
The above are just some samples I have carried, use, suggest to others.

I do not do or recommend 'bargain loads" as the attention to quality control is not always and the gun may not go bang.

I do not recommend Stingers or other Hyper-Velocity ammunition either.
Sometimes it takes more of a "hit" to set off primer.
Add, POA/POI is usually affected.

Neat guns!

I use Stingers and they have been 100% reliable. This isn't exactly a gun you use the sights on in a confrontation so regulation doesn't mean a whole lot. Practice with whatever you decide to carry so you know what it'll do. A pocket holster is a great idea as well and the one from NAA is just as good as anything out there and cheap too.
