Yesterday I bought a new CC option for myself. There is just some times that almost anything is too big to carry comfortably and without obvious printing. I had been curious about the little NAA revolvers for a while. I never realized they had so many models over the years until I did a little research and started taking more notice. The sidewinder model is what I wanted, but I couldn't see the inflated prices asked for them. I decided on the Black Widow in 22WMR with a 2" barrel. I took it out to shoot for the first time yesterday. I was very surprised at the accuracy and handling of the new firearm. I put all five shots through a coke bottle at 10 yards several times. Pumpkins left over from Halloween were certainly no match for the pistol. The 22WMR load with the short barrel is louder than my Beretta 92. I changed my draw routine to cock the revolver almost instinctively as it comes up out of my pocket. Regular practice will perfect that draw and cock routine. I bought a small Blackhawk holster and took it to my local cobbler. He trimmed and sewed it to fit the little pistol much better for 5 bucks. I read here on THR where several of you also use this pistol. Any respectful thoughts or comments are welcome.

I have a Black Widow convertible (both cylinders). I love the little revolver. As you stated there are times that you need to be very discreet in carrying concealed. Mine goes with me walking the dogs, going to the gym, doing yard work or riding my bike.

You are going to love it throughout the years. I have several of the NAA .22WMR's and whenever anything else is impractical to carry, I have it in my pocket. Wise choice. .22 Mag is a devastating round. I have had one in my carry 'rotation' for decades.

Side note: Had my backup NAA break a mainspring after around 20 years of duty. (Old style cylinder.) Sent it in to NAA with the cracked plastic grips explaining it's been used a lot for years as a backup pocket gun. Within ONE WEEK, the gun was returned to me with the new Safety Cylinder, (allowing me to load 5 chambers versus 4), new rosewood grips, (my cracked plastic grips were returned in another bag) and the finish on the gun was re-done. The gun looked so new and perfect that I seriously had to check my computer records to insure they sent me back the original gun... which they did! Their service is outstanding IMHO! Maximum stars for NAA.

I am always amused when talking to the shooters displaying their collection of
"carry guns" on the bench and when asked which one they carried to the range they usually give me an excuse for not carrying one and when they ask about mine and I produce my NAA .22 mag they look down their noses at the "mouse gun". I always have the same response, a mouse gun in the pocket is better than a hand cannon in the safe. The people who carry a small pocket auto without chambering a round are fooling themselves into thinking they will have the opportunity to chamber a round when the need arises but with this little honey you know you have one ready by just cocking the hammer. The visual effect of this little gun firing is very impressive and in a low light or dark setting the muzzle and by pass flash will light up the place like the fourth of July.
I have been carrying mine for 10 or 12 years and in all that time it has never been discovered by anyone, so I feel it has done its job of giving me a firearm and not calling attention to the fact I am carrying.

Carried one for years as a backup to whatever the department was issuing. For me that is the primary role of this little pistol. I still occasionally throw it in my pocket in a holster as a backup. I would never feel comfortable carrying the NAA by itself but I won't argue with so many who do so. It does beat a sharp stick or a rock.;)

Black widow?...

Hmmm, I thought it was 7th ID.

I can't tell the number of times I've dropped my NAA in my pocket to answer a door or open a gate. These days, I keep it in a particular drawer of my tool box.

Love the NAAs.

The Black Widow is the best of the NAA designs IMO and one of the best small handguns ever built. Just an ideal combination of size, weight, power, and accuracy in a very concealable design. I carry mine frequently as primary, sometimes as backup, and it occupies a strategic location when not carried.

IMHO, those who look down at the .22 magnum as a useless mouse gun cartridge are instantly telling me this: "I am ignorant!". Few commonly carried calibers will stop a man dead in his tracks the instant a handgun bullet strikes his body. Some can, but, most do not. Check the .22 Magnum ballistics and see for yourself the devastation this little round produces! (Many reviews out there.) As always, shot placement is important.

Good videos. I liked this one on the Gold Dots the best:

I'm kind of disappointed they didn't show the shots through the ballistic gel in slow motion. You can see it, (the expansion wave that disrupts the vitals), but not very well. The bullet diameter of the .22 Mag. is the same size as the .223 Remington rifle cartridge. It's not just the diameter of the hole and penetration but that disrupted wave too! I shot a coyote from about 20 yards away with my NAA Mini Master, (4" barrel)... he never took another step. Shot went in at the lung/heart area and came out his groin. What the ****?!!? Upon dressing him, he looked like he had his innards put in a blender. It was disgusting but eye-opening.

With the new Speer Gold Dot loads in .22 mag the gun has excellent stopping power provided shot placement is good.

For a gun this size, you couldn't have done any better methinks.

i have packed one daily for over 20 years,i don't leave home without it

The NAA Black Widow is my always gun. Even "IF," I am carrying another gun, my Black Widow is always in my pocket. It's a pretty potent little package. With its size and weight, there is no reason not to carry it. A lot of days it's my primary CC, activity and location dependent.

I have just the standard model. Yes, with heavy bullets it keyholed. A member on here put me onto recrowning it witha knife sharpener rod ( cant remember who, or maybe a guy I shot trap with), but anyway, it turned it on like a light switch and has been perfect.

I was looking a NAA's 4 years ago and decided on the Black Widow with conversable cylinders and it was one of my better decisions. The BW is always with me in my front pocket and most of the time something bigger on the hip. With practice the BW is accurate at the distances you will use it. With the modern 22 mag ammo and shot placement it will be much better than a sharp stick. It is also good for pesky garden rabbits.

Those of you who may have shot more than one these models, have you noticed any difference in accuracy comparing a 1" with a 1 5/8" or 2" barrel? I would assume at such short distances the difference is probably negligible.
