I have 2 Ar's one was a bushy M4 that came factoy with a 16 1/2" chrome lined and I free floated it and could get about 1" to 1 1/2" groups so I replaced it with a new upper that had a 24" E.R.Shaw Bull barrel that had an issue and wouldnt even do that, only on a flook would I get lucky and get a 1/2" groups from it like it should have done every time, so I sent it back for replacement and havent gotten it back yet, but thats my benchrest AR. on my carry AR which is what im building now, I want a heavy carbine barrell for it, I saw a guy at the local gun store I like to go into and he had what looked to be about a 16 1/2 barrel that was almost the same thickness as my Bull, it was black, and it looked really nice and was light which is what Im going for.

can you name a few brands or post a links to some bbl's that fit that description. thick and light, maybe a 1-8 twist and Id like it to be chambered in .223 but 5.56 is ok. FYI, Im trying to go high end, not trying to save money. want a good one. Thanks

If you want lightweight and accurate, you could try Noveske's stainless steel barrels. Noveske chrome lined barrels are typically sub-MOA performers, the stainless ones are even better. I'm getting consistent ~.5" groups at 100yds with their stainless steel "Recon" barrel and handloaded 77gr Nosler bullets.

Edit: To qualify, that's with an ACOG and a standard military-type trigger. A high-powered optic and match trigger would probably improve on those groups.

i have found that for a heavy barrel 16" ar, the bushmaster hbar is a great comprimise between the full weight 16" bull barrels, and the weight of the m4.

its only about a 1/2 lb heavier, and measurably more accurate.

after all, youve seen its groups, and how great it shoots.

naw, just yankin your chain, and bumpin your thread. >:)

in the EE over at arfcom, there's a broughton 5c ar15 barrel listed in the upper parts forum. they're a pretty popular benchrest barrel maker. i've got a broughton in 6mmXC on a rem700 and i'm pretty fond of it.

i was tempted to get it even though i have no use for it. might be just whta you're looking for though

BOB is a fine name a for a barrel. the one I sent back to E.R.Shaw that had issues was named Timmy.
