I'm new and not sure of location for thread. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

My question is.. Is the Nashville gun show in early April or all gun shows in general worth it, for Good Deals. that kind of thing. ...Super virgin here, never been to a gun show when I was old enough to buy a gun( sad I know). and I live about 3.5 hours away from nashville and don't want to make the trip if its a waist or time.... please let me know if you have any insight. From what I read in these forums the prices are much better at shows than at stores.. thank you APWINNER

The next gun show at the Nashville Fair Grounds is March 17-18. Sat 9-5 and Sun 9-4. Every gun show I ever went to is a crap shoot. Sometimes I find a deal and sometimes not. I try to get there at opening time and see what people are carrying around with them. I find a few deals that way. Most of the dealers are people you see at other local gun shows. A deal depends on what they have come across since the last time you saw them. April's dates are 7-8

There is also a gun show that is in Smyrna TN about 10 minutes south of Nashville. I don't know the next date yet.

The gun show that has been in Smyrna has been moved to franklin, Tn. Thats the Bob Pope show. Take I 65, south, to exit 61,(Peytonsville Rd.East on Peytonsville to the Expo bldg. The next show is June 22-23-24.

You can check his web [email protected]

I go to the shows...rarely buy anything.

Mark.

If you've never been to a gun show, it's worth going just for the novelty of it.

Gun shows can be disappointing if your expectations are not realistic. Part of the expectations game depends on the gun show - some are better than others.

Generally, if you are looking for a certain specific gun, you are likely to be disappointed. Maybe nobody will have that particular gun, or maybe they will but the price isn't that great.

Gun shows can be good for:
Reloading supplies that are expensive to ship due to HazMat fees (ie; powder, primers)
Inexpensive range ammo
Cleaning supplies and other doo-dads

Unless it's a really crappy gun show, there will be SOME guns there that are a good find and a good value - they just may or may not be what you are looking for.

So, if you go there thinking something general, like, "I'd like to find some kind of inexpensive military surplus bolt gun, and some cheap 9mm range ammo," you'll probably do okay.

If you go there thinking something super specific, like, "I want to find a 1939 Finnish Moisin-Nagant in excellent condition with matching numbers and a laminated stock for under $150," then you are likely to be disappointed.

thanks guys... i was looking for... at the stores here average price of gun A is $350.00 I read on here I can pick one up like that at a gun show for $250.00 . I was woundering more if the prices are really that much better ...thanks for all the input.

I would not guarantee you a discount of $100 on a $350 gun just because it's a gun show.

A lot of that depends on the local area, what is popular there, what the dealer has, how bad they want to get rid of it, and all kinds of other factors that vary from time to time and place to place.

Sometimes, gun show prices are wildly inflated over fair market value, if they think they can talk someone into buying the gun at that price. I have had a dealer at gun show tell me that he raised the prices on his Romainian AK's because "they're banned now, and pretty soon you won't be able to buy them legally." Another guy had an astronomical price on a Chinese 1911, and told me the price was high "because the Special Forces are buying them all up."

Going up and down the rows at a gun show, I am more often shocked at seeing how high someone's price is than how low it is.

I think it also depends a lot on your local scene and what prices you're used to paying for things. When I used to live in Chicago (no gun stores in Cook County, few in the surrounding counties, and all with highly inflated prices), the gun show prices all looked really low to me. Now that I'm living in American again, the gun show prices don't seem so miraculous.

There are still some good deals out there, but you have to have an open mind about what you're looking for and you have to know what you're buying and what it's worth.

Again, I would say that looking for a specific gun for a specific price is a great way to get disappointed at a gun show. Someone there will probably have a great deal on something, but not necessarily the gun you had in mind.
