I just bought a Navy Arms 1858 New model at a swap meet. It is marked Pietta, and I have a couple of those, one from already had one from Navy Arms bought in 2002 and one from EMF in 2001. This one is not like those though. It has a beautiful blue finish, with no machining marks anywhere. Very smooth edges with a dovetailed factory sight and a silver trigger guard. It has a serial number of A0090.

I have not seen a Pietta this slick before. It has not been shot, but you can tell with the cylinder ring it has been played with. The box looks old, but I can't date it.

My current Navy arms Remmie is not near as nice as this..is there anything special about this gun, or did the older ones have so much more attention to detail?

Looking at the new prices as of tody, I think I did OK at $150.00.

Thanks

CH

I have one that meets that general description; it came from Dixie Gun Works. They call that model the "Shooters Revolver" and it costs a bunch. You may have an older version of this gun, sold to you by someone who did not know what he had.

Go to DGW's website and check it out.

BTW, mine is as slick as they come and shoots like crazy.

Bad Flynch is right,...I also have a "Shooters" Rem by Pietta, and they're great! Look down the muzzle end with a bore light at the breech, and see if the rifling starts out at the breech end very slow twist until it gets up near you at the muzzle, then it gets faster twist. If so, that's the progressive rifling which gives better accuracy. I think you have a Shooters Rem because of the better bluing, silver plated trigger guard, dovetailed front site, and the serial number begins with the letter"A".

You did good ,Coyote! ;)

Yes, it is a "Shooters" by Pietta. On the Dixie catalog, they sell for as much as a Ruger Old Army. 600+

And besides, Pietta is really coming out to be a very good firearms manufacturer. They have improved greatly over the years.

Coyote Hunter any time ya want your money back let me know ..lol
You got a good deal on that one ..
I don`t have a shooters Remmie and forgot to look at one both times I`ve been to DixieGunWorks . If they look that nice I probally would have brought one home .

I'm on my Sis-in-laws computer right now :banghead: and don't have the gun beside me. I will check the rifling and mafg date if I can and get back here today...I emailed Navy arms and all the writer said was "that model is no longer imported by our company" with no more history on mfg sold date or anything.

I wuz wondering if that wuz what I had or not..The only flaw to the gun is it has a cylinder ring from careless "playing" with it, but you van tell it hasn't been shot. I dare say most of the ring comes from the ding-a-lings in front of me trying to spin the cylinder and half cocking it and releasing the hammer without fully rotating the cylinder. I grimiced :cuss: :neener:every time I saw it being abused.
I think I first bought it out of pity for the poor gun, then realized I might have a diamond...

:neener:to all those who couldn't believe he wanted so much for a "toy you can't even load bullets in...

I'll try to put up a pic tonight.

Here are the Pics. I finally traced down the serial number. It was made in 1985 and IS a Shooters Special after all. It even has chamfered chamber mouths but what I find it needs .457 balls. I don't think I'll use it now for my reenacting, even with the cylinder ring, it should be worth more than I paid for it.

I forgot to mention one other gun; it is like the Shooter's Revolver, just a tad less expensive. Pietta made this slightly less expensive version and it had the silver triigger guard, really nice fit and finish, etc., but it did not have the gain-twist barrel. Its price tag was just a little below the Shooter's Revolver. Still a very nice, premium gun.

I forgot to mention, it does have the gain twist rifling. After reading your reply, I took out the cylinder and had a peek. The wife would have had me commited if she had been home with me whooping it up in the house. I only made one really good deal in my gun trading and buying life, now this was my second. Kinda gets the old heart pumping, and noone got hurt, I'm pretty sure this came out of an estate auction somewhere, so he made money even though he didn't know what he had. Neither did I until yesterday.
