Oh wow...crazy is getting closer to home. Mt. Airy is only a short drive over the mountain for me...and hispanics are populous throughout the area, especially this time of year.

Think it's suiting to think about the family of the victims today.

Guess when I go pick up the lady friend tomorrow, I'll have my AR with me for insurance.

I shall send more links later on from local news stations throughout the area whenever more information is released.

Mount Airy isn't far from me, either. I ride my Harley down there all the time in the summer. The assumption that small towns are safe is rapidly being invalidated. The Grassy Creek Murders happened just 5 miles from my house (http://extras.journalnow.com/grassycreek/series/seriesindex.html). The murderer lived less than 1/4 mile from me and has been to my house on more than one occasion making deliveries. I think this reinforces the fact that crimes happen everywhere and the ultimate responsibility for protection and defense of our families lies with each of us individually. For this reason, I could not be more pleased that my son is showing such a strong interest in shooting. He will compete in his first event on 11/22 and is equally nervous and excited. He is learning respect and proper handling of firearms and I have no doubt that he will become a responsible gun owner himself, perhaps sooner than he realizes (he's getting a 10/22 in two weeks for his birthday and a CZ 452 for an early Christmas present). Unfortunately, he's developing rather expensive taste -- he's already eyeing vintage 1911s and Garands. By introducing him to firearms now, I have every confidence that he will have the knowledge and respect to be able to protect his family in the future.

A little update on the shootings; this guy was caught in Henry County VA thanks to law enforcement acting swiftly.

I didn't mean for my first post to sound racial or biased, but in our area during this time of year, immigrant workers are plentiful in the Christmas tree fields. Sure, hispanics aren't the only ones who murder people in NC. Not every murder in NC happens to be a quadruple murder either....

Apparently they think these murders were premeditated...I'm curious about this.

Tragic news stories generally aren't on topic for THR's General Gun Discussion forum, as they do not help to forward our goals of highlighting and forwarding the ideals of responsible and safe gun ownership.
