Hey All!
I just bought the NcStar 1.25-4x Tactical Scope for an M4A3. From what I've seen in the 30 minutes I've played with it, it seems like a great scope and for $129 it seems even better. It has a light up reticle and 1.25-4X zoom. I have not had it to the range yet, only mounted and played a little with it. Just wondering if anyone out there has had a chance to play with one of these and whether or not they liked it, and why not if you dont like it.

Thanks for the Info!!!

I just bought one myself in 3x9x42 for my AR-57, got it for $125. So far it looks ok, optics are fairly clear. I think it will do ok for a short range low recoil rifle. I plan on testing mine out Sunday. I had to find a compact scope that would clear the mag on the AR-57, this one clears by about 1/4" when putting in or removing the mag. I can't wait to try it out.

I had a 4x carry handle scope on an AR. I think I paid ~$60 at a gun show and it was worth that. It is not a top quality optic, but for plinking under 200 yards it did great. I shot just as good of groups at 100yds with national match sights but the 4x made things easier for my poor eyes to see at further distances.

NcStar makes junk. From my personal experience, and some friends' experience.

I wouldn't go so far as to just say they are junk. They are what they are a cheap scope with no frills and poor quality glass hence the saying "You get what you pay for". They do serve a purpose, I needed a scope that would fit the rifle pictured above. All I could find besides the NCstar was the ACOG and I was just not going to spend that much on a 100 yard gun.

Do I expect it to compare to the Leupold 6.5-20x40mm VXIII LR scope on my AR-10, no way but I do think it will serve the purpose I need in this situation. It was also 1/10 the price of the Leupold!

I've purchased many cheap optics in my life, and good ones too. There is a place in life for cheap optics. And a place in life for good ones. I like owning both.

If I want a cheap one, I probably won't get another NC Star. I have two and I don't find the view through the glass nor the features to be as good as the other cheap ones. I don't like the finish either. I can get better for the same money from Tasco or BSA or Simmons or CenterPoint or Bushnell.

For more expensive optics, I currently believe Nikon is offering some really good instruments for modest money right now.

I know you didn't ask, but...
My all time favorite scope is a John Unertl 4x purchased by my dad in the summer of 1946, more than 62 years ago. It is clear as a bell, almost no parallax error, tough as nails, a very fine crosshair than focuses sharp and clear, and half the size of modern rifle scopes. In its day is was very expensive.
A good scope may be expensive today, but in 2070 (62 years from now) your descendents will be impressed with it.

P.S. No offense to anyone, but I would prefer to read more detail than 'It's junk' from people who have had a bad experience with something. The full story is much more informative.

I wasn't going to be the first to say anything, especially since I can't confirm from personal experience, but this goes along with most of what I've read about them, too. But if it's working out well, then cool beans !!! :)

the scope listed by mp510 is basically what I got. I was going to go with an eotech 553/555 but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the $650 on it. I also liked the fact that this has multiple magnifications. Like I said, it hasn't been to the range yet, but if it sux...it'll go back. This scope seemed to provide what I was looking for at a cheap price. I could get an EOTech 553/555 for $650 with no magnification, or an aimpoint for $450+ also no magnification. From the couple hours I've spent so far I like it alot...It seems solid and feature full. Can someone recommend a better scope for the price? I was looking at the Bushnell Trophy 1x32 Riflescope but I like the fact this scope has the 1.25-4X magnification and illuminated reticle. If someone can please lead me to a reasonably priced scope that fits my needs...only other one I saw was the Millett DMS-1, but that scope is HUGE...I dont want to get into a scope half the size of my rifle ;)

Thanks!

if it lasts you more than 1 full mag, without recoil destroying it, moving the dots/reticles, or power actually briefly turning off, then back on, i will be surprised. NC star is the lowest of the low considering optics, followed very closely by BSA...

I've got 2 of those new NCstar tacticals, but in 2-7x, one on an AR the other on a Beretta Storm. So far not a bad scope for the price. Isn't going to compete with high dollar glass but seems fine for a plinking carbine. Hadn't seen them in the 1.25-4x yet, maybe the model just came out.

Seconded, I've had two NCStar scopes, both of which never held zero for more than a shot, and one of them which shifts a good 5" at 100yds when you move the adjustment dial a click.

Good luck if you decide to go this route, but I'd highly suggest spending a bit more and getting something that isn't garbage.

I owned a NcSar. I put it on my FAL. Had to take it off, though. The eye relief was about 12mm.
