The wife was out w/ the kids yesterday when she was rear-ended while sitting at a red light.
(nothing major, but still a pretty good hit. No one was hurt at least.)

Anyway, she called after they pulled into a secure parking lot and was a bit razzled. Headed right over to help, especially since she had both kids to take care of.

I ended up pulling up just as the officer arrived. Got out of my truck and approached everyone between the two vehicles. Had my Drivers License and Concealed Handgun License out to show the officer 'discreetly' (the other gentleman was next to us) and to inform her that I was carrying. (It's the law here in Texas, at least the license part - I always provide full disclosure though).

Here's the 'warm-n-fuzzies'
Her response:
"Well, it's nice to see we have two upstanding and responsible citizens"

The LEO never expressed any undue concern at all, as she obviously shouldn't.

I look over to the guy who hit my wife and "CHL?"
Him: Yep.

Not the best way to meet another shooter/chl.
But at least no one was hurt and we'll get the car fixed.

Matter of fact this is the second time I've had to identify w/ a local LEO and all I have to say is "Gotta Luv Tejas".

I have always been under the impression that you are only required to show your CHL and inform an officer you are armed IF you are asked to identify yourself, e.g., a traffic stop. Why would you do otherwise. In this case, you were not a party to the accident so you were essentially a bystander.

At least you met in a friendly manner. Could have been worse and you tweo might have actually had to use your guns.
FYI, here in NV, a cop told me that a CCW permit shows up when they run your license. We aren't required to inform an officer. I always do though. Just saves time (in a traffic incident that is)

Rock Jock,

I believe you are correct.

However, as I mentioned, I 'personally' believe in full disclosure.
What's the harm?
I'm not aware of a downside. I am completely legal, and would prefer that there be no gray, especially when dealing w/ the 'back-n-whites'.

Maybe this is part of how I grew up.
I was a 'gear-head' w/ a '71 Camaro; all my time and money was into that car if that gives you any indicators.
Needless to say I've been pulled over a 'few' times.

Everytime I would always treat the cop w/ respect. Would NOT ask:
What's the problem officer?
Why aren't kyou out catching real crooks?
Or ???

I would be honest when asked a direct question.
I didn't ever say "Was I really going that fast? I had no idea?" Yea, right.
My point: I had gotten out of many more than my share of tickets. Often I'd end up popping the hood and 'bench race' w/ the officer.

However, I also believe in providing only the relevant information if the situation dictates, ie: if ever involved in a S.D. shooting. Different circumstances altogether.

CZ,
Kind of lived the same lifestyle as a "Yout"! I had a '73 Z-28, but I had a
6-71 blower hanging out of the hood. None of the cops wanted to bench race me, knew I'd whip them easily! I once got pulled for doing 96 in a 55 and the State Trooper let me go with a verbal warning because I was having electrical troubles and was trying to get home before the battery died. He was even ready to give me a jump start to get me going if it would not start :D He said that he as always seen me around town, and never saw me do anything stupid, not even a small burn out. Man, was I lucky. I used to roast the tires on that car every chance I got!

Bench racing is what car guys do when there is snow (and a lot of the time, rain) on the ground. Usually done in a garage while looking at one of the guys' car.

I do it all the time, that 67 in my name is the year of my Chevelle.

Scotts,

I bet that was a 'torque' monster with that huffer on there.

Mine was a worked over SBC, 355 ci w/ about $3000.00 in parts.
Had 2.73 gears in the rear-end along w/ substantial suspension work setup for handling corners and cruising at speed.

Kinda had a similar stop back in my 'stupid' days.

Running around 120mph late night/early morning while back in college and not in my best shape, had just left a buddies birthday party (did I mention about this being my 'stupid' time of life).

Got pulled over on the way home (a good 40 miles back to Denton from just outside Lewisville) by a State Trooper.

His first question was "Been drinking?"
Me: Yes, sir.
Trooper: How much?
Me: Probably more than I should have.

Get out and go through the paces, somehow he determines that I'm OK to drive, assuming I promise to keep the speed limit. :what:
Ends up writing a ticket for something like 93mph IIRC, something about if the ticket is X percentage over the posted limit that he has to take me in; and he really didn't WANT to do that.
At this point I'm finding Jesus really fast.

Get back into the car to start back up and, CLICK... dead battery; shredded the alternator belt while running.
Trooper offers to jump start from his cruiser... no luck.

The trooper ends up giving me a ride back to Denton and we talk hot rods all the way back.
This was my 'wake-up-call' in life BTW.

Sorry to vere this thread off topic.

KnightHawk,

Chevelle are great, obviously. :)
I was born in Columbus, moved here when I was 6.
Always thought the gearhead in me was a result of being a 'Buckeye', Ohio has a great hot rod history.
Matter of fact still have the motor, putting it into a 19.5' Sea Ray.
Time to get 'stupid' on the water.

In an attempt to save this poor, innocent thread from being hijacked, :neener:

I was pulled over a while back for a broken head light. Handed the Deputy both DL and CHL and said; "You probably want to see both of these, and yes I am..." She looked at my CHL and said; "Oh COOL! You know, it's only going to take one of you guys popping some creep at an ATM for all the creeps around to get a clue."

I didn't even get a "fixit-ticket" for the head light, and she she could have nailed me for no proof of insurance too, but did not. So far all the New Mexico cops I have dealt with have been very positive about CCW and firearms in general.
