LB 454, "The Concealed Handgun Permit Act" is being debated RIGHT NOW
in the Unicameral.

If you're asking yourself..."What can I do to help get the Right-to-
Carry in Nebraska?"

The answer is "Call your Senator" RIGHT NOW. This is so simple,
cheap, and quick. And yet, how many of us will read this text on
our screens & do NOTHING. Please just make one phone call. Even if
you've never done it before, it will take you maybe 5 or 10 minutes,
maximum.

If you can't figure out who your senator is, then use the contact
link below, or just ASK! We'd be glad to help! Either post the
question on ccwne.com, or feel free to email me [email protected].

Here is the senators' contact information:

Remember, CLOTURE IS KEY.

LB 454, also known as the "Concealed Handgun Permit Act," is being
debated right now. Please contact your Senator and ask him or her in
specific wording to "support a cloture vote" on this important
legislation.

Doesn't Nebraska have a problem with a certain state Rep. always filibustering CCW bills?

IIRC, he's done it numerous times. Just gets up there and start babbling and won't stop till everyone leaves.

Yes, that would be Senator Chambers. He is famous for this tactic. Senator Combs needs to get 33 votes to overcome his fillibuster.

Senator Chambers is the Unicameral's longest serving senator & he can be very intimidating to cross. That is why we need to make sure that we get calls in to our senators. We need to let them know that it is the will of the people to get lb454 passed. And even if your senator does not support the bill itself, we need to encourage the senators to vote for a cloture to end senator Chambers's fillibuster. Without a cloture vote, we are allowing the the minority to rule & that is just not right.

Thanks to anyone who spends this very important 5 minutes of their time to call their senator!

[email protected].

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : LINCOLN, Nebraska, May 10th, 2005: Senator
Jeanne M. Combs, of Milligan, representing Nebraska's 32nd legislative
district, said Tuesday that she has reached an agreement with Speaker
Brashear to pass over her priority bill (LB 454) which would create the
Concealed Handgun Permit Act.

"With only 14 days left in the session, I had to strongly consider this
compromise," stated Combs. "As they say, a bird in hand is worth two in
the bush, and Speaker Brashear has committed to scheduling LB 454 for
full and fair debate within the first 21 days of next year's session.
That assurance gives me confidence that this bill will become law next
year in view of our clear majority of supporters in the body."

"Without Speaker Brashear's commitment, there was no assurance that the
bill would even be heard on Select File, regardless of whether it
occurred this year or next," noted Combs. "This way, we've got a
guarantee that the body will voice it's final decision and it will
occur
in less than a year. I simply couldn't pass on that opportunity."

Combs further noted that continuing to press on now, in addition to
losing the assurance of three full rounds of debate, would only sow
dissention in the body at a point when LB 454 is facing a filibuster
and
the budget debates have not yet concluded.

"I've got the votes. What I haven't got at this point is the time,"
said
Combs. "I am committed to getting this bill passed and there is no
doubt
in my mind that we have made the right decision for supporters of LB
454."

Hopefully we can get this through the Unicameral next year.

I've emailed & called my state senator...he's newly elected last Nov and I voted for him.

My wife also called his office telling him she wants him to support the bill and vote for cloture of Sen Chambers fillibuster.

I also got a friend to call.

I also plan to write a carefully crafted letter to the Chief of Police of Nebraska City who is the president of the NE Chiefs of Police Assn. He testified before the judicial committee in opposition to the CCW bill. His main premise is that more guns in homes = less public safety & that private citizens aren't adequately trained/capable of using weapons properly. He stated that LE's receive 600 hrs of firearms training at the academy when the entire course curiculum is approx 600 hrs.

One of my points will be that I'm not a trained firefighter, either, but I carry an extinguisher in every car and I'm not anxious for an opportunity to use one. I just want to be prepared in case the need arises.

I'll post a draft and see what others think. Any input will be appreciated.
