I am curious if I could use one neck sizing die for 2 different cartridges of the same caliber. Say use a 30-06 neck die for a .308 or a .270 Win neck die on .270 WSM cases?
How bout I get a short caliber die and use a long caliber in it?
Nope too!
The case body diameter on a 30-06 for instance, is .441" right behind the shoulder.
A .308 case is 454".
The die body needs to be near case body size to keep the neck centered.the die (that isn't doing any sizing) being bigger than the case is problematic.
Don't see how with the decapping stem in place. I don't think that my Forster neck die for .308 even touches the case other than at the neck. If it isn't touching, 0.001" is the same as 1". "Near" doesn't do anything. The die body needs to be near case body size to keep the neck centered.
Big .270 WSM case in a .270 Win die won't fit.
Small .270 Win case in a .270 WSM die would be a sloppy fit in the die body, and could neck-size off center.
