I have a Smith Pro-series 627 that I want to use for Steel Challenge. Should be a good gun for it...smooth trigger, 8 shot capacity, moon clips, very accurate...except I dont have a holster for it. Not interested in a speed holster like the pros use..I want to be able to use the same holster for field or range carry. I just shoot for fun and always do pretty good even though I use a Serpa lock holster with my regular SC gun (a glock 17). I want something with a SMOOTH draw that dosnt jack your pants up to Steve Erkle level on the way out, but not a purpose built speed holster.
I prefer paddle holsers with no thumb strap. Right now I'm looking at the Safariland 568. Anyone have one? What are some other good n frame paddle holsters?

My 325 (same dimensions) rides in a Kramer paddle horsehide. Well made, but a good bit of retention, so you WILL get a bit of Erkel-itis. Sometimes you just can't have your cake and eat it too. If you don't want a strap and can't find a serpa (you probably won't) you NEED that must passive retention, sorry. Rides high and close (for an OWB) and distributes the weight VERY well. A little pricey, but I'd recommend picking one up if you have the means.

These aren't paddle holsters, but they're very popular with toters of N-Frames. Do a Google search for:

Simply Rugged Holsters

CABO Holsters (Carry a Big One ;))

Kytac holster

I shoot steel and USPSA with a five inch 625. I'm real happy with my Kytac.
Its secure, never a problem bending over or moving. I don't have any problems drawing and getting hung up. I'm a slow fat guy. So the opportunity to hang up has occured, but no problems. I have a rather blocky fiber optic front sight and it has never dug into the holster on the draw.
I have removed the hammer spur on this 625, so that helps.
At times I have worn it in my car and it works for open carry.
