Hey guys! I love my new 1858 Remington New Army. Okay, I am lacking one thing for my new revolver: a holster. I am not concerned about whether it's a western holster or even a nylon holster. I just want something I can safely open carry my revolver with. The gun has an 8" barrel.

I found the old original 'flap' style is pretty well suited for a '58 with 8" barrel. It keeps things dry, and adds a little extra measure of protection for gun and shooter.

Do a search on "Brooks Cowboy Holsters" on Gunbroker. Contact the seller, and tell him what you want. I just bought a beautiful crossdraw holster for my 1858 Sheriff (5.5"). He does great work at very good prices. This was the second holster I've bought from him, the first for a 5.5" Ruger Single Six.

I got a flap holster for about 25 bucks or so from Midway. I got it for field carry of my ROA which just BARELY fits it. :D It's really for a Navy/60 Army sized gun, but there is another hold for the stud that allows the ROA to fit with the flap closed. Guess it'd be a bit much for open carry for self defense, but that's sorta what my .357 magnum and .45 ACP are for, though I can't open carry in Texas.

Please don't degrade the classic 1858 by shoving it into Nylon! It deserves Leather!
You can get a basic yet pretty nice holster from Cabelas foro starters and later on get a good custom holster made. Just please, no nylon!

This nylon holster fits a Pietta 1858 target model like a glove. A person could spend a lot more money for a leather holster and not be any happier with it. :)

arcticap, that holster looks EXACTLY like the Blackhawk I won on Ebay for $9.95. I know guys, a western revolver deserves a leather holster. Unfortunately, working for the State of KY (pun intended there), my family doesn't make a lot of money. Besides that, I'm not much of a cowboy action purist. I am doing this for open carry. I can open carry my brass frame 1858 in a $9.95 holster just as well as in a leather holster. When I can afford to buy leather, I will go all out.

Hello RC

I was also looking for a holster for my 8" barrel Remington and found this site http://www.westernemporium.com/store/001732W.php
I contacted Customer Service and asked them if they have also holster for an 8" barrel Remington revolver.
They told me to put the information in the special window during the checkout process and it costs $5 more.
I hope it helps.

I'm not by any means a rich man, but you can make holsters out of scrap leather that work just great! make sure you stick them real tight and use waxed hemp cord. it's what i use. i like to double stitch my holsters. so far i have made two 1858 Remington holsters, an NAA .22 LR and .22 Magnum holster, and a ton of knife sheathes. I'm getting good at this! if you do decide to make a holster i recommended the tie down kind. it's simple, you don't need too much leather, and you don't need to do much sewing. plus i like tie down holsters.
