I have a Colt Gold Cup Trophy 5" Stainless Steel model 1911 45 ACP. I have a Safarliland holster for it with the ALS system, which in theory is great. Unfortunatey even though it is lined with buckskin, the plastic still rubs on the underside of the frame and the top of the slide. It has started to wear the finish off the gun, which pisses me off. I have decided to try and find a good OWB leather holster. I have read great things about Milt Sparks but dont think I can swallow a 9 month wait. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You could always go with a Galco or Don Hume. Both have reasonable fit and are available pretty much now, especially if you go to a larger gun store.

Leather will still rub off the finish BTW.

Tom Dyer is an old friend and makes all my holsters for me these days. The last three have been fully hand tooled and the longest wait was three weeks from the day I ordered it.

He is also a true custom maker. Each holster is made for the gun it is made to fit and to the customer's specs. He's pretty straight up about wait times. He does one holster at a time and then goes to the next order.

Perhaps the best thing is the prices. Because he is retired and makes holsters for pin money he charges what he thinks is reasonable. My last three holsters, all fully hand tooled and tri-color, ran between $105 and $130.

The last two have it right. I have heard nothing but good things of Tom Dyer, and have several 1911 rigs from El Paso. Galco is also readily available and excellent quality but holster wear is a fact-of-life with a carry gun. I just elect to have the top end of mine re-blued when the time comes.
