I have a Springfield Armory XD45ACP (not the compact model). The grip is a full 13 rounder.

I am 24yrs old, weigh 220-230 lbs, 5"10'. I have been carrying concealed, Small of the Back, with no holster. I find it comfortable while sitting actually. Thing is, it prints VERY Easily if all I'm wearing is a loose-fitting t-shirt. I normally have to wear a Jacket to fully hide the grip.

I am wondering if there are any better carrying options out there, that can help me conceal my pistol better.

Yeah, I know, its a large pistol to carry. But I dont want to have to get an XD40 Sub-compact since I dont want to have to inventory more than one type of pistol ammo.
Also Glocks are out of the question for me, since they just dont feel right for me.

*sighs* I wish Springfield Armory made a .45ACP Subcompact.

SA XD45ACP exists in a reduced length grip...10 rounds. You need a holster. That pistol is not safe w/o one!!! Risk it if you choose...I would never non-holster carry a Glock or an SA-XD.

Don Hume makes a well made inexpensive OWB. Check them out at DonHume.com

I have the Springfield XD 45 ACP, in addition to other XD's, I carry them all in the IWB Comp Tac Minotaur Slide. It does not imprint and I just usually cover it with a shirt. Hope this helps.

Nothing to it.

Get a good belt from The BeltMan, RafterS, Wilderness, or any other reputable holster/gunbelt maker. Not "belt", "gunbelt".

Get a good holster. Decide whether you want IWB (Inside Waist Band) or OWB (Outside Waist Band) and whether you want to carry on your side or continue SOB (Small Of Back).

The 4" XD .45 is aproximately the same size as a 1911 Commander, so concealing it won't take a miracle, just a good belt, holster and some minor wardrobe changes (maybe).

I think you'll find that the grip conceals better carried in a good IWB holster carried at about 3.5-4:00 strong side. The slight forward cant of the holster helps hide the grip shape. My suggestion would be a Sparks Summer Special or something similar. Good luck.

I carry my XD 45 Service in a Comp-tac and have done so for nearly two years. I am 6'3" and weigh 268 lbs. I have a good gun belt and wear my jeans one size larger than necessary to accomodate the gun. Works well for me.

5'10" 170 lbs. Carry a XD45 compact with 10 rnd daily, Uncle mikes IWB strongside. Comfortable, never a problem, its not too fat. I do agree the xtra lenghth of the 13 rnd mag doesnt help, if you like the XD look at a Compact.

I have an xd45 compact, and it conceals very well. I carry it in a milt sparks vmII at around 8-9 oclock(lefty). The reduced grip length makes a big difference. I know it isn't an easy fix, but i'd consider grabbing one of these. They come with a full size magazine with a grip extender which turns it into a full sized grip for whenever that works better. Great pistol, great carry piece.

Does anyone have the actual width of these two handguns?

I measured my XD9 4" grip to be 1 3/8" thick. My granddads Colt measured 1 5/16" thick. Not alot of difference.
With em laying on the table side by side, the only place I can see where the XD is thicker than the 1911 is top of the frame where the slide lock and takedown levers are.
But the .45 with 7rnds is definitely heavier than the XD9 with 16rds. Nothing like good ole steel. LOL
