Just say no to Wal-Mart. Are you kidding me? They are an anti-gun corporation, why would you give them one penny of your shooting dollars? You buy a gun from them and they carry it out for you - Perp Walk style. *** is that about? They don't trust you enough to have the gun you just passed a background check to buy - yet they will take your money. Fark wal-mart.
Go to your local independant gun shop and see what they have there. If you ask nice, they should be willing to mount and boresight the gun for you for a small tip of the hat fee. Keep them in business.

Wal mart is not an anti-gun corporation.
Only a few stores banned people from carrying concealed weapons in the store. In some walmarts that I've been to, that's a damn good idea.
But the walmart corp as a whole is not anti-gun. They sell weapons and ammunition, and the do not walk you out of the store if you buy a firearm.
I have, and they didn't. I don't know what walmart you shop in, but the only problem I've had is buying .22 lr, and not being 21. Which is a FEDERAL policy they are required to enforce.
No I'm not kidding, I shop at walmart. Until wal mart starts actually funding legislation that takes firearms out of my hands, I challenge the idea that walmart is "anti-gun"

Either way, m1surplus.com is a very viable alternative to walmart that I presented for johnnyh in case he had something against walmart. Diego's prices are even lower than walmarts.
So I don't see the great sin that got me all that hate from you.

I tend to go with the Weaver one piece base that uses the standard Weaver rings and not the smaller 7/8" base or the stock Ruger scope mounting base.

Every bit of contact area helps a little more in keeping things tight and secure for the long run.

Allot of ring options when one has a Weaver regular base pick a style you like and that works well with your preferred scope.

You can get them from any decent sporting goods store or places like Natchez Shooters Supply Cabela's Midway etc.

how can you even think that denying a CCW holder is a dam good idea ?

Evidently, you haven't been to some of the walmarts I have
Denying ALL people from carrying weapons in some of those
stores is a good idea. Walmart doesn't single out CCW'ers.
And the only way, if you carry concealed, to get removed from the store is to flash your firearm around, which is unnecessary. There are times and places where brandishing a weapon is necessary, walmart, generally is not one. I still haven't been to a walmart that searches every customer that walks through the door.
So if you aren't being irresponsible with your firearm, then there would be no problem.

Some things that I say may be a little more complex than meets the eye,
so think carefully before labeling me to, anti-gun, because I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe in the basic right of gun ownership.

No it is not. How is it a good idea to not let law abiding citizens carry a firearm into a wal-mart?

Walmart doesn't single out CCW'ers.

So since they don't single out people who carry concealed firearms it is better?

Please give an answer to the simple question
how can you even think that denying a CCW holder is a dam good idea ?

All I'm saying is that there are places for firearms, and places where they just aren't necessary.

Look, you can quote anecdotes out of my posts all day long and apply them in a different context, but my point is that walmart is NOT antigun.
Just type in "walmart anti gun" on google and you will find several forums and articles backing me up.
I like guns, I like walmart, I like typing as you can probably tell.

I'm not taking guns from anyone, if I were santaclaus, I'd give them away at christmas.

You don't need a machete to trim the bonzai tree, you probably don't need a 1911 to go pick up some toilet paper. (unless it's the industrial strength)

But please, if you want to carry a handgun to walmart, go ahead.
And I say thank you in advance when someone is holding up the joint and you are there to shoot them. That wasn't even sarcastic.

Note: If there is a walmart near you that has antigun signs up, all you have to do is write a letter to walmart central affairs, and the store will have to remove the signs. (hence the walmart=antigun = myth.)

I understand that you don't need a gun to "pick up toliet paper", but there is always a chance that you will need to defend yourself.

I just got a little frustrated when you said that it was a good idea to deny people the right to lawfully carry a firearm into their store.

that is what I was getting at as well. Face it , posting signs will only stop the legal concealed permit holders from carrying , those who are carrying illegally wont care about a sign.

Of course the worst they could do from what I understand if do have a permit and get spotted carrying is trespassed.

Also, if I am not mistaken, good ol' wallyworld is fairly liberal as a corporation, are they not?
Liberal usually = gun hating, tax raising, conservative bashing, God loathing, tree hugging, illegal alien loving, earth worshiping, pro socialist, anti-wealth, defeatist with a nasty habit of ignoring facts.
They're phasing out guns anyway...

I talked to a friend of mine who's an advisor for the walmart company,
they told me that the "phasing out of guns", is not currently a likely proposition. They may in the future, because they sell so few, but the sail of ammunition will continue as it always has.
I haven't heard any walmart referendums about phasing out God though.
Might have to look into that. :p

It is hard to say. What scope you should go with. I am one person that thinks 50mm Obj. are stupid, I can not stand them. In all the ones I have seen they offer nothing over a 40mm or 42mm obj.. Plus with a 50mm obj you have to get high rings leading to improper shooting position. I would say get the weaver bases that fit the drilled and tapped 10/22 reciever. and go with any of the 3-9 or 4-12 variable scopes. I have a 4-16 power scope on my 22.

Tango is right.
A smaller FOV, obj, whatever you want to call it,
is better. Unless you want to shoot at flying things, or things a mile away,
a 50mm lens is really unecessary. It's only a .22 after all.
But definitely go with the base that you just stick right on the ruger yourself.
Ammo is cheap, have a little fun and sight it in on your own.

No, not it is not. You obviously just don't get it. You might be in the wrong forum if you think that way. Seriously. It's about the Second Amendment and it applies to everyone equally. Like it or not.

I am also in the market for a scope for my 10/22 and I saw several recommendations elsewhere for the Simmons 22mag 3-9x32 scope.
There is a Nikon Prostaff made for rimfires... they don't cost all that much more than the Simmons, but it is a much better piece of glass. Much clearer. Much brighter... and a heck of a lot stronger.

George:
Evidently you missed
A: my note about how that was an inappropriate blanket statement in the guise of an anecdote.
B: My concurrence with the others, and admitting I was wrong.
so seriosuly,
again: you guys were right.
I'm not against the second amendment, I kind of enjoy the constitution, as I'm sure you do. (I'm american too)
I was wrong to say that you should forbid people from carrying in walmart.
is that enough?

I went ahead and got a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32mm scope for my 10/22. I decided that for the shooting I will do with it and the practical ranges of 22LR I didn't need a 3-9x. I will try and let you know how I like it once I get it and put some rounds down range. The Banner series seems to have a pretty good reputation as far as budget optics go. I ordered it for just over $60.

Look at the BSA Sweet 17 or Sweet 22, both have bulet drop compensator and are seem to have the best reviews of the BSA line.

I hate it when a Wal-mart manager has to walk me out when i purchase a firearm. Which is why i no longer shop OR purchase guns there. (just thought i'd give my 2 cents
