I picked up an old LOE trade in Smith Model 10 this weekend. Its pretty worn cosmeticly(lots of holster wear) but locks up tight as a drum, shoots to point of aim, and is quite accurate. I bought it for a tackel box gun, but it shoots so dang good, I want to give it a quick and dirty reblue. Nothing fancy, just hit the high spots so to speak. I sanded the grips down and refinished them...now I want the gun to match.
I don't want to dump alot of money into it, because then it would defeat the whole purpose of having a cheap gun for screambling around the woods and lake.
any suggestions or cost guesses, I have never had a gun reblued.

Is that the one they had up at Palmetto?

Now that Marineau is gone I'm not sure who else around here does bluing. He used to charge I think around $75 to reblue a gun - that's blasting it and doing the whole thing. Polished was more expensive. There's a guy in Gaston that might do it, I'll try to find contact info for him.

Of course, if you want it VERY cheap you could buy the cold blue stuff...but it may look better now than it would then.

I got this one at the gunshow. Dang I miss Marineau already. It was bad enough when Hussen at "The Gunsmith" closed up shop.

I feel ya, it sucks not having a shopful of tools at my disposal. I've had to start buying little things that I could just borrow or use at the shop before.

I see that you guys are in the Columbia area. Are you members of MCRC? Also, have you been to the one in Gilbert? I just started and looking for a good (and safe) place to shoot.

Well it wouldn't be blueing per se, but maybe take a look at the Brownell's website and see if they have a spray on or bake on finish you like. You said this is gonna be a woods walkin and fishin hole gun, maybe a teflon based finish would work well for your intended uses. It won't be as nice as new blueing, but it'll be durable and whole lot nicer than a rusting blued gun. Just an idea.

For a tackle box, I'd seriously consider something like Mac's Tuff-gun finish. It will probably give better rust resistance than a reblue. I know it will be better than cold blue. He'll do a complete revolver for $120. I think he's a member here, maybe he'll throw in his two cents.
