Need help buying a vintage 1911

I am going to purchase a vintage 1911. I am not in a rush. I need to know where I should start as far as information prior to purchase. The fun will be in the hunt. Good referrences as to reading material, websites, specific models and makes etc.. I am sure there are alot of 1911 experts at this site and can help guide me along. But I would like to feel confident looking at Gun Shows, Gun Stores or online sales. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ...Russ

Unfortunately the big Clawson book is out of print and seems to sell for about the price of a pretty good gun.
