Savage Model 14 American Classic

Ruger M77 Hawkeye

Ruger M77 Old version

Remington 700 CDL

FIGHT!

I'm familiar with three CDLs of recent manufacture - a .22/250, a .243, and a 7mm/08.
Also with two CDLs made in the late 90s, both of them .243s.
Also with two CDLs made in the 80's, a .243 and a .25/06.

All of them are so accurate they are boring.

Remington Model Seven

I have a Remington model Seven belonged to my grand father then my father now it belongs to me It's just six and a half pounds in .308 I have hunted deer, Elk and bear it will be passed down to my kids, the best dam all round gun ever IMHO.

I have owned 2 700s. One in .243 which is now my daughters deer rifle and one in .308 which was my bench gun. Both are/were great. The only regret I had with the .308 was selling it. My vote is 100% Rem 700 CDL.

I happen to like all of your choices. I don't see a need to really complain about any of them. So for me it would come down to which I could get the best deal on.

Is the Savage a good rifle? I believe it's the least expensive of the 4. I hear for 2008, they listened to customers and changed the plastic trigger guard to aluminum. And the bolt is now jeweled. Anybody have feedback on these rifles?

I really like the Savage 14. Walnut stock, cut checkering, polished blue, detachable magazine, what's not to like?

Someone's done their homework, all good choices. I prefer my Ruger 77 in .22 WMR all weather with trigger-job. All it needs is a thumbhole stock and I would deem it worthy.

Savages are great. Funny how some people refuse to believe they haven't improved since the 60's, while simultaneously believing that Remingtons's haven't declined since the 60's. Just buy what fits you the best. And if you don't have any preconcieved notions about rifles put in your head by dads and uncles, you're world's ahead.

Remington is what my dad taught me on and Remington is what most flks around here used to hunt/practice with.

Not anymore. Savage has become the go-to gun for just about anything. They're accurate, dependable, good looking and reasonably priced.

Remington is now just another corporate bought-out mfg'ing firm. Several gun companies (DPMS, Bushmaster, Remington and others) are ALL owned by the same parent holding company. They'll all look, work and cost the same pretty soon. An example is the "new" Remington R-15 VTR. It's a Bushmaster Varminter that's been around for several years...... oh, Remington painted it camo.

I like the classic good looks of the Rugers the best. Combined with the dependable feeding and extraction I think you would have a good looking classic rifle. While perfectly acceptable for any hunting purposes they will probably be the least accurate. Individual rifles will be very accurate however.

The Remington CDL is next if you are basing your decision on looks. The CDL is the most expensive and will probably be tied with the Savage for most accurate. Once again individual rifles may vary.

The Savage will probably be the least expensive and may very well be the most accurate. I realize this is personal opinion but the Savage Classics are butt ugly. I have no use for the very high gloss on the wood and metal. Same reason I would not touch a Remington BDL or some of the gaudy Weatherby's, even though they are fine rifles. I just do not like that look. If I were inclined to buy a Savage I think I would buy one of the stainless
models and either live with the stock or buy aftermarket.

None of these would be my first choice but if forced to pick between them I would probably go with Ruger and hope I got one that was above average accuracy wise.

just my opinion go with the savage. my uncle and grandfather give me hell over some my gun choices because they are die hard remington guys but remington makes good shotguns only in my opinion. for rifles im a solid mossberg guy but from your selection id say SAVAGE

I would buy a Ruger m77 mark II I prefer the walnut stock,I like the 270 and 7mm mag,I have both.I also like the Georgia Arms ammo!(balistic tip)
Or like BOGIE mentioned The REMINGTON 700 police works in 300 win mag..
One IMPORTANT factor...Having the correct scope...Leupold scopes are good enough for me,from 4.5 x14x50 to 6.5x20x50 mil dot...The gun is only as good as the scope!
Good luck with you choice!
