Need help getting NRA rifle Instructor certified for Boy Scouts!

OK guys,

I trying to make-up for a bad camp experience my Boy-Scout troop had at summer camp. I’m going to teach them to shoot and help them get their rifle marksmanship merit badge.

However I just learned that the “instructor” for the merit badge needs to be NRA rifle certified. I’m in college working 5-day 10-hour shifts (*&^%@#!$ rotations) and I don’t have the time for 14 hours of instruction.

I believe I’m quite savvy with firearms and I’m hoping there’s someone around Augusta, GA that can cover the “more challenging” materials with me and get me qualified in a day. Is there anyone who can help?

Good Luck! I'm a Range Safety Officer with over twenty years of mlitary and civilian firearms instructor experience, and my requests to the NRA for help in getting certified has gone nowhere except for general information about their program.

Sadly, this appears to be a rather inactive program for the NRA...at least in our area.

I was signed up to take my NRA instructor courses this summer but our local instructor has decided to stop teaching because the NRA has changed their instructor insurance "fine print." They have amended their policy in the following,

"I received an NRA Instructor insurance policy renewal notification. Within that renewal was an EXCLUSION - to wit - for: Liability arising out of the training instruction provided by you or your employees to any person, to the extent that such person uses or relies upon that training instruction, in whole or in part, in the course of that person's livelihood or profession.

With a close reading of this language it opens a very large gap in coverage.

This exclusion will greatly limit the type and amount of training I can do for anyone, e.g., newly recruited Marines, Law Enforcement Officers, or CCW people who may become armed security guards, etc."

So far it looks like things are going to get more difficult for NRA instructors. :banghead:
