I've inherited a custom rifle which the barrel claims is chambered in "220 Improved Swift". After fireforming about 60 cases I am unable to identify which particular "improved" chambering this rifle is in, as I understand there are several based on the 220 Swift. I have attached a picture of the profile of a fired vs. unfired cartridge; any help would be appreciated.

It looks to me as the shoulder has about a 30* angle. I don't think it actually has a "name," tho' Mashburn could be used,
You've already fireformed some cases, so you might load some ammo with max .220 Swift loads, then work up from there.
My estimation is that you MAY work up about 5% more by the time you are through, and your velocities may be as much as 3% higher.
As it's a "wildcat," or at least improved, you will have to let your rifle tell you what it wants.
Have fun,
Gene

Yes but, I can't reload with regular .220 Swift dies can I? It would have to be the wildcat dies right? I've been comparing my cases with pictures I've found online and side by side they are almost a dead ringer for 220 Weatherby Rocket, but I have no way of knowing that for sure...

.220 Weatherby Rocket.
Would you like any measurements?
I would be willing to send you a fired case for comparison.
Mine was chambered by Huntington's in the late 70s, $158 with 3 die set :), and is stamped " .220 Swift Imp"
The good news is you can shoot .220 Sw ammo in it (you knew that). Once fireformed I neck size only. Dies are available(but not cheap).

It is not an Ackley, mine has a different shoulder. Use standard Swift loads and work up, the good news is the new shoulder helps with the brass flowing into the neck. This is a problem that the standard Swift has had forever. Let's see a range report. My Swifts like 40 grains of IMR 4064 with a 50 Sierra. I usually start there, but my new AI like H380.
