im wanting to tweek my 1911 like barrel and other parts to make it a little better can any one on here help me on brands that would be be good priceing i look at a wilson Stainless Steel, 5". it was in the $300 range just for the barrel are there any cheaper brands thats close to the craftmen ship of the wilson or im i goin to have to bite the bullet and pay way to much for a good barrel and any others parts that would help out an old 1911

The 2 match barrels people generally look to are Kart and Bar-Sto. Like Wilson's barrel, they cost around $200 (not $300) for barrel & bushing. Go to www.midways.com, their are prices are pretty good for other M1911 parts as well.

Remember that the new match barrel + bushinq will need to be hand-fitted in order to fit & function properly. Even the supposed "drop-in" will still need some hand fitting.

I don't see any reason to use anything but a Kart or Bar-Sto but the fitting is more important than the actual barrel used.
