So I bought from a local PD a .308 700 PSS in the HS PSS Fiberglass stock with the aluminum bedding cradle. It is pre accu trigger or what ever they call it made in the middle 90s and the bore looks very nice. The log book shows 850 live rounds in 22 years of service. It was sighted in with it's
,Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10X40mm Long Range M1,Target Dot scope in what I consider crappy Redfield mounts which I switched for
DNZ 14700T Freedom Rp. Tactical 4-Screw Scope Mount 1" LOW mounting system I had in stock. It has a very nice pan . tilt low harris bipod and the old school strap on comb riser bag. I gladly paid $600 + deros fees to my FFL for it !
While I had it on my work bench I decided to put in a Timney straight trigger system with it's safety I had banging around still in the package a couple years as the trigger it came with was about 6.5# and had not been "recalled" . I had to relieve the bedding block about 1/8" to clear the front adjustment screw of the Timney, especially after I backed it out to give me a 2.5# trigger. I also had to take off about the same off the bottom of trigger finger piece as it was just about touching the inside of trigger bow when I seated the action screws to 20 inch pounds . After I assembled the action in stock running the bolt a couple hard times the sear would not stay set when closing the bolt and safety would not go on . this did not happen before I put on the stock. I took it apart quite a few times and could not see any interference on anything and the front action screw seems to have something to do with the problem as when I loosen it to 10 in pounds or less problem goes away. When I tighten it to 30 inch pound bolt almost locks up too obviously dragging on something ! When I removed the bolt and checked for from guard screw protrusion into bolt locking notch it looks barely clear at 30 inch pounds and certainly clear at 25 inch pounds. I am not sure what is going on, I ordered 2 new Remington action screws for it in stainless as the heads are getting looseon the allen key. Anybody got any ideas ? I don't think the trigger has any thing to do do with it, Ive put a few on before with out a problem on 700s . It didn't have this problem before I started but guard screws were not very tight when I got it.Thanks
