ive run about 300 rounds through my mossberg 930 spx and have disassembled it a few times and become familiar
with the gas system but the last time i disassembled it a flat metal ring fell out when i was brushing the spring thats
attached to the barrel and ive never seen this piece before. i checked the owners manual and i believe its the seal ring
but now im not sure what to do because i think it was inside that spring assembly thats attached to the barrel and
not loose in front of gas piston assembly but if it is the seal ring then the owners manual says just to slide it in front
of the gas piston assembly. has any one else had this problem or have any advice?

It looks like that seal ring goes into the groove on the right hand edge of the piston that is shown with it in the third picture. Just a guess on my part.

I had the exact same problem when I first cleaned my new SPX. I put that piece in front of the piston thinking it was the gas ring described in the manual. Federal tactical slugs cycled, but not Federal 00 buckshot at all. Upon disassembly, that little ring was gone! Where the hell did it come from and where should it have gone?

I actually recently found out how to fix the problem. In side the gas piston area that is attached to the barrel right next to the gas ports there is a very small grove that the seal ring pops right into and ive shot 200 rounds with out any type of malfunctions to confirm that was the right fix

I found this out about the same time you did! My split washer made its way behind the gas seal that is pressed behind the recoil spring. I had to dissassemble the recoil spring assembly, remove the spring, then the gas seal, and then extract my spit washer. Upon reassembly, I placed the spit washer inside the recess of the inside surface of the gas ring and it fit perfectly! Reassembled and fired 44 rounds of everything without a hitch! Dissassembled, inspected, all as it should be! How the hell did that washer makes it way out of the seal initially I wonder, as it really takes a bit of effort to remove it from inside the seal when properly placed inside it.

FYI... I bought a Mossy 500 last year and the saftey froze up recently. I tried to*adjust* the screw and the whole thing came apart with a piece rattling inside. I called Mossberg and they told me to ship it to them... still had 9 years full warranty :D They fixed it free and sent it back that week! They even sent another free lock and another manual with the gun. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE~~
