I have a ton of new norma brass for the 7.5x55 schmidt rubin and looking to reload but I cannot use standard loads because they would generate about 45,000 psi while the rifle can only wistand at the maximum of 39,000 psi what can i do for loads I do also want to reload with black powder im new to loading.

I have also just purchased a winchester model 1892 in 38-40 and a .303 jungal carbine with the number one bolt in good contion for about $600 for the both are these guns worth more?

Personally I'd probably make that 1889 a wallhanger. But if you must shoot it, I'd probably call up or email a few powder companies and get their recommendations. Alliant and Hogdon seem to be the majors, and have other brands underneath them.

No clue what those might possibly be worth, but I'd guess you were more likely to have overpaid, than underpaid. But I could easilly be wrong on that.

Neat rifle, is it complete? Most of the 1889s that I've sen have been chopped or 'sporterized.' As a complete rifle it might be worth several hundred for collectors, but chopped, it isn't worth much more than $100.

For loads, I wouldn't shoot anything but cast lead loads (sort of like the original loads for this rifle), or as SUMPNZ said, make it a wall hanger.

Go over to Swiss Rifles.com, gunboards, Milsurp shooter.com, and look for the straight pull forums. There is a lot of info there, including reloading guidelines.

I reload for my 1889s, they are beautiful, graceful long rifles. Always get some odd looks at the range.
They are not 7.5x55 like the other swiss rifles, you will have to shorten the brass up, and load to lower pressure.

tons of info on reloading for these old girls.:)
Good luck and let us know how she shoots.

I failed to mention, I am shooting a 1871 Swiss rifle. A Vetteri in 10.4x38 Ithink that is the correct length. Originally a rimfire, I converted to centerfire and make my brass from .348 Winchester or 8mm Lebel. It can use a 0.429 bullet, same as 44 cal pistol but the proper round nose works better. It has a 12-13 round tubular magazine like our lever guns.
