Hello - I want to adjust my sear spring and need to remove the MSH from an SA 1911 that has the Internal Lock System. I did this once before on my other SA, but seem to recall I had to do something extra before just tapping out the bottom pin and pulling the MSH out.
If I recall correctly, unless I do that extra step, the mainspring will fly out because of the ILS.
But I cannot remember the extra step. I thought I had a Youtube video saved, but cannot find it.
Can someone fill me in, or direct me to a video that is specific to the SA 1911 with ILS?
Thanks

ADDENDUM: Soon after posting this, I think I found the answer. I believe the step I was missing is to cock the hammer and insert the SA MSH disassembly “pin” (little L-shaped pin) into the hole in the factory MSH. That's the step that is different from other brands of 1911 because of the ILS and that extra hole. Am I correct?

If I remember right, you can lock the lock, and that should hold it. But its been a long time since I did it. Im thinking it will also just come off like a standard MSH, but getting it back together that way might be trouble.

I also believe you can just replace the lock parts, with standard parts, and not worry about dealing with the lock.

I always just replaced the factory lock MSH with a standard one with a lanyard loop. I prefer the arched MSH (and short trigger) the best, and most dont offer either with a lanyard loop any more too.

Correct. The little bent pin is the answer... But that is not a "extra hole", it is usually filled with a pin to keep the spring and follower captive on a standard MSH

Thanks John, interesting you mention that. I was just checking my Kimber about an hour ago and noticed, "Hmmm, that hole is filled." Thanks for explaining!
