Has anyone out there made up a decent look a like for the shellac on 91/30? I removed the barrel bands on mine and when I slid them back on a lot of that stuff was scraped off. I don't want to finish it with oil or stain because I like that "RED" finish that's on it now. Thanks

Stain it the color you want then tung oil it. I put 2 coats of tung oil on some real beat up T53 stocks and it spiffed them up really nice. It really soaks in, waterproofs and gives a nice durable finish. It's also easy to touch up and dries quickly.

Ya can spread out the existing shelac with denatured alcohol, just start wiping it down it will soften and spread to cover the scraped areas, this is how ya work out the runs etc... as well

Strip the shellac off with Formsby's Furniture Restorer. Stain the wood to whatever color you want with RIT clothing dye and denatured alcohol. Finish with tung oil or "Tung Oil Finish" varnish.
