Local range has this old Krag 30-40 they took in, it's listed for $500. I know almost nothing about Krags other than they were old US Military rifles. Im assuming this is a sporterized version? The action was very smooth, didn't check the bore though

I have two. Not an expert by any means. Can’t tell too much. Prices on them have certainly increased. Stock looks refinished. Front sight looks original. Loading gate looks very blue. Depending on closer inspection it might be an ok price. Others smarter than me will add more valuable insight.

So, its been sporterized (shortened barrel and stock), the front sight appears to be mounted on a band- the original would have been soldered on, odds are the rear is calibrated for a rifle-length barrel and it will shoot low. On the plus side, the conversion looks well done and clean.

They are very smooth actions, though not super strong due to only having a single locking lug. Factory ammo is stupid rare and $$$$.

So, if your willing to handload, its not a bad gun or a horrible deal. Unmodified Krag rifles are goin for close to a grand now, and real carbines are nearing two Gs.

The stock is a replacement sporter stock. The original military stocks were all straight-grip.

The front sight is also a replacement. It's on a band around the barrel. The original front sights were brazed to the top of the barrel. The rear sight is original.

On the whole, this looks like a well done older sporter conversion. A restoration to the original military configuration would not be feasible.
