Need help with a new GP-100

That is nowhere near acceptable for any revolver. Call Ruger Customer Service, explain your problem and see what they say. Careful there, tho. I hadd a Wiley Clapp GP 100, and sent it to Ruger for a couple of small problelms. I was told that they would have to replace it. No problem. I'd rather have the Clapp version, but I got a Matcfh Champion out of the deal. Good Luck!

Call ruger and send it in. Let us know how it turns out, please!

See guys, you should have read the thread, it's already back from Ruger.

@Derek Zeanah I hope it was repaired to your satisfaction and you can give us a range report soon!

As soon as this jet lag leaves me I'll be banging steel. And shooting for groups - my limited shooting suggests the sights are zero'd for 158gr bullets, and I generally shoot 125s. And the difference in impact point is greater than I expected.

Regardless, I'll follow up once I confirm whether it's fixed or going back for another fix. I'm optimistic though.

And this should serve as a warning that you need to test every firearm before you carry it on your hip. Even revolvers.

But we all knew that already, right? ;)

My GP100 did not like lead round nose 38 special. Carbon & lead would build up on the cylinder pin causing the revolver to lock up.
Removing the cylinder and cleaning the cylinder pin & not using lead round nose 38 special solved the issues.

Well, I just put around 60 rounds through it. Every one fired as expected.

  • 158gr LRN hit point of aim and stacked on top of each other at 7 yards
  • 158gr PPU JHPs opened up a bit but still hit point of aim (probably me)
  • 125gr Hornady Critical Defense do exactly what the 125gr Remington SJHPs do: on my target (one of these) if I shoot at a target on the top row I hit about dead-center one target row below.
  • 140gr Silvertips are maybe a half-inch below the 158gr rounds
  • 158gr Underwood XTPs opened up a bit but still hit where expected.
So she's reliable now. Shoots well. Single-action is a bit creepy but workable, and she's got a strong preference for 158gr.

So I'm happy. Thanks for your advice, Friends.
