i have a savage model 10 in .243; i recently bought it and it has the serial number is G417XXX. i bought this gun at walmart and it came with a simmons 3x9x40 scope on it; it is all black synthetic; i was on the savage website and i cant find this particular gun on the site; i believe it to be part of the package series but i cannot find the exact model on the website; it has the accutrigger on it. my questions are (1) what is the exact model name and number of this rifle (2) what gun is it on the website (3) is it short or long action??? if anyone can give me a complete rundown of the specs of the gun then that would be appreciated; thank you

So you bought a new gun, don't know what it is, don't have the paperwork that came with it, and after going to the Savage website can't tell if it is long or short action? :scrutiny: :banghead:

OK then, So ANY Savage that is model# 10,11,12,etc. is a short action. 110,111,112etc. are long actions.
According to the Savage Catalog2006, that is one their website, In the package series, if it came with a synthetic stock the model # is one of 5 options.
11FXP3, 11FYCXP3, 11FCXP3, 11FYXP3, 16FXP3.
F= synthetic stock. C=Detachable clip magazine. XP=package gun. XP3= 3-9X40mm scope on package gun. Y= youth.
All are 22" barrel, EXCEPT 11FYXP3, that is 24" Barrel.

Darkker, you stud , you! i was gonna look around knowing it was one with all the fx gx xp, etc., stuff on it , but you nailed it!

how can you tell the difference between the youth and regular model?

probably by the Y in the model number just my guess though.
P.S. Did you look at the stamping on the Barrel just forward of the Reciever?
