Hey Gents,
I'm looking to get a new optic, and I have a little different circumstance - I'm a right hander but lost vision in my right eye and have to shoot as a Lefty now. Besides it obviously making everything more difficult, one of the worst seems to be target acquisition as I am not as "firm" or steady left handed. I'm hoping to find some glass that will help with that, or at least be more forgiving, as having to do things left handed I'm far from fluid.
As far as the application, I shoot a 5.56 cal. Tavor in 2 gun competition and the glass I use, used to be fine, altho it's nothing special. What I am wanting to find is something that works out to 100 yards with good target acquisition as well as possibly in CQB courses of fire (10 yards or so).
Currently, I have a red dot on the side of my scope that I have set up for CQB and works fine but, the scope is the issue. I need one that I can pick up the targets easily at up to 100 yards. While I am at it, I may need to get rid of the red dot as it currently mounts on my scope or find another way to mount it if I still need to use it.
So if ya have ideas that you think might work for me, let me know. I will do my due diligence from there.
Thanks for your time.

I would think a scope with a long eye relief and bigger eye box would be best. Leopolds have good eye relief. One of them 1-8 or 1-6 x24 may work for you.

Sorry to here about your eye. I kinda know the feeling. I got a chemical in my right eye when I was 12, shot left handed for 3 years until my eye sight came back.

Traditionally Leupold has had the most forgiving amount of eye relief and are easier to get behind. But the difference is narrowing, there are other good options. Most scopes have more eye relief at lower power settings, but once again many more modern scopes will have the same eye relief regardless of magnification. I'd suggest looking at specs of some scopes you're interested in to see which have the most eye relief. FWIW around 4" usually works OK, but I don't like to get much closer. Many Leupold scopes will be closer to 5" on lower power settings.

I'm thinking something in the 1-4X range should be about perfect. On 1X you'll be able to ditch the dot sight and do just as well, if not better. If you still want a dot they make traditional scopes with illuminated dots on the center of the crosshair. The only advantage of a dot sight is lighter weight. No reason to have both on the same rifle. And for longer range work 4X will work out to at least 300-400 yards.

Thanks gents. I will start with your recommendations.
I think I have seen some “adjustable” scopes.(????) but not sure. Sorry for the inexperience. I’m learning.
Thanks again.

For your circumstances I think a holo sight might be a far better option than a scope. It won’t be dependent on eye relief or alignment and should be very quick at picking up targets without obstructing your view. Whatever you put the sight on is where it shoots. While they may seem expensive, a good 1-4x illuminated could easily set you back $500-$600. That’s an Eotech and change to save toward a magnifier with flip mount.

Barring the above for cost, a Burris Fastfire III or similar open dot.

I just put an Eotech with 3x magnifier on my AR. I'd take a look at that combo for fast target acquisition and good precision. I'm sold.

Hey gents, thank you so much for the help!
We had our TSA match Sunday and I checked out a buddy’s Burris RT 6 ( I think it is). I thought it worked pretty well for me so I started looking around. I ended up purchasing a Vortex strike eagle 1-6x24 Tactical Scope With Leupold Mark 4 Mount. I believe it would be very comparable. Plus I have other vortex glass and like them. Should be here in a few days. Looking forward to taking it out for a test drive.
Thanks again!
