I'm currently looking to purchase a cheap AK and I saw this one on this local classified website.

It comes with a 5rnd clip and 10rnd clip which leads me to believe it's not a hi-cap gun. Any idea what sort it probably is? can you tell by the pics? how hard is it to modify one of these to accept hi-cap mags and would it be worth it?

I can get a new SAR1 for $359 but i'd have to go through the hassle of going to get a copy of the dealers FFL license, sending it to Arkansas, then waiting for the gun to be shipped to the FFL.

Should I buy this one or buy an SAR1?

Why would you have to have it shipped to AR if you were to purchase from a dealer?

Anyways, I would guess that that would be a WASR-10 lowcap that you are looking at there. Some of the WASRs have been modified to hi-cap by century, but I am betting that this one hasn't been.

If you wanted to convert it, you would have to replace a few of the foreign parts with US made parts, and then you could convert it legally. But it wouldn't be worth it, not with it starting at $300.

You should be able to get the WASR hi-cap for a little less than the SAR-1.

Oh I meant I'd have to mail the copy of the FFL, not the gun. The dealer is in AK.

Ok, thanks for the advice! I'm gonna go ahead and get an SAR1. I've heard they're alot better than WASR's, even the hi-cap ones.

If he bought it new and only took it to the range once what happened to the original stock?

You should be able to just go into your favorite gunshop and ask your dealer to order a SAR for you from EAA. You'll have to pay his markup but, it would be less hassle.

It also occurs to me that it looks a LITTLE like one of the older romanian SINGLE STACK ak's (the lack of a thirty round mag doesnt help). IF it IS a single stack AK you DO NOT want it 'cause you'll be stuck with 5 and 10 round mags forever. And with one of the AKs distinguishing features being the abundance of affordable quality magazines that would really suck.

Asside from all that i just get a weird vibe off of that gun...

Get the SAR-1.... It was designed to securely hold regaular (high) capacity magazines. if you can get one for under $400 delivered (including shipping, taxes, & FFL charges) you're doing OK...

The WASR-10 I got this weekend is a little tight on the magazines (modified by Century to take the 30 rounders). The SAR might be a better bet.

Oddly enough the 30 rounders go in and out pretty well it's just the 5 round magazine that came with another AK that gives me troubles. Might have to take a little file to the mag well to sort this out.

I don't see the dimples on the sides of hte mag well so it's probably pretty safe to say that's a WASR-10 and low cap.
