Ok, I'm new to taking US postal Money Orders from strangers buying stuff on the internet from me.

QUESTION: Have any of you guys ever heard of a US POST OFFICE giving somebody cash for a USPS MO, and then coming after that person later because the MO was found to be bad?

I thought if I cashed USPS MO at the US Post Office today, I'd be safe if the clerk gave me the cash, and I walked out of the PostOffice door. I figured it would be a "Done deal" if they gave me the cash. Well, the mumbling clerk there with the "I don't give a crap attitude" could only tell me that the US Post Offfice MO was good at that moment, but it didn't mean it would be good tomorrow. She said they have a list they use to check and see if it's good, but who knows if the list will say something different tomorrow. (?) When I asked her if that meant the post office could come after me for the cash,( after I already shipped my buyer the goods) she said "I don't know what the Post Master does. That's his Job"

I took the MO to my bank where I deposited it and I can watch it clear for a few days.

I always take the postal MO's right to the PO for cash. Never had any troubles.

The PO should be able to clear it instantly. It started in their system, your just on the other end.

Totally off topic, so I'll get my 2 cents in before the door is locked.

The only reasons a USPS MO would be 'bad' are counterfeiting or if the MO is stolen. If you cash your USPS MO at the PO and it turns out to be counterfeit, YOU will be on the hook for the amount of the MO. Also, you may be contacted by Postal Inspectors. If the MO is stolen, you WILL be contacted by Postal Inspectors.

For the most part, USPS MOs are problem free and good as gold. Because of the penalties involved with any crime relating to the USPS, bad guys (generally) avoid the USPS. It is safer for them to counterfeit a MO from another source, where the penalties aren't as severe.

Question answered, so off topic thread closed.

Note: nothing jerks my chain more than SHOUTING in your topic title, so try that trick when you want to make sure I see it and close it down ASAP.
