Anyone else have any trouble cashing a PO money order? I sold a few bullets and some brass and was sent a po mo and the bank wouldnt cash it! I thought she was kidding but she wasnt. She said good luck, that the post office wont even cash them. So I had to have her deposit it.:banghead:

I went to a local bank to cash a postal MO, and they wanted to charge me 20%.

Take your postal money order to the post office and cash it there.

I dont know but I will call the boss. I know him well. She talked to the other lady there and she agreed with her. Yes, I know both ladies well too, this is a very small town.

Same thing here. I received one around christmas for a rifle I sold. The lady smirked and said cant cash that. It was for the max 1000. WHY SET A MAX IF YOU CANT HONOR IT? I drove to the next town and they took care of me like they were doing me a favor.

Any post office will cash a USPS money order- assuming they have sufficient funds in the drawer to allow them to do so without running out of change. I speak from heavy experience. My local postal clerks can ask the terminal and it will tell them how much cash on hand so they can find out in advance.

Post Offices often DO NOT HAVE a lot of cash on hand unless there's been a lot of overseas postage or large customer counts like the Holiday season. Anything more than a few hundred dollars is a stretch. It's best to try the larger post offices, and towards closing time when the till may be fuller.

Or maybe I just came in and cashed my MOs before you and wiped them out. You never know. :)

Banks are not obligated to cash money orders- USPS or anyone's- but will accept it as a check for deposit. Heck, even Walmart won't cash their own money orders without charging the fee anymore.

I've had the same problem. I prefer Western Union MO's by far. Inexpensive, no hassle to cash, plus I can get them at the local grocery store at 10PM instead of working around the post office's schedule.
