Actually, IMHO it'd make sense to have a .243 win for varmints

AND

a .25-06 for deer.

:)

Me? I have .243, .35rem and .30-06 and still want others.

I have a 700 ADL in 243, bought about 20 years ago from wally world. I replaced the plastic barbie doll stock with a laminated one from Boyd's. It has killed many deer, and is my favorite rifle for this task. Very accurate with 100 grain WInchester power points.

I would take the 700 ADL and I like .243 much better than 25-06. I just flat out don’t care for the Axis line. That doesn’t mean they are bad rifles and I believe time has proven they are good. I just don’t like them.

IMHO if one forgets their ammo they should stay home and watch golf.

I take my hunting a bit more serious I guess.
And folks that flub stuff, like forgetting ammo...........I don't trust them to remember other things, like safety.
That's why I pack ammo in my clothes pack and my day pack for hunting.

I picked up a bargain 700 ADL 243 with a scope for under $400. It was an unfired display gun and will shoot sub-MOA with several handloads. All I did was change scopes and adjust the trigger. I recently found some Savage Model 11 XP Trophies for less than $400 but that was wholesale. The Model 11 is a big step up from the Axis. Another rifle to consider is the Ruger American. I have never seen one of their centerfires that didn't shoot well. Can't say the same for their rimfires.
