Here's the background: I'm up for my first renewal of my Class A LTC, currently restricted to "Sporting and Target." I am composing a supplemental letter (for attachment to my renewal application) to my local police chief, requesting consideration of an upgrade to "All Lawful Purposes" (ALP). This is a police chief of a highly gun-unfriendly Massachusetts suburb where getting an ALP is rumored to be harder than climbing an alp. I do not own a business; I do not transport large amounts of cash or expensive high-tech equipment; I am not involved in law enforcement, security, or private investigation; and I have no reason (thankfully) to fear for my life or the lives of my loved ones.
My reason for wanting the ALP is that I plan on obtaining my firearm safety instructor certification in 2011 in order to teach handgun safety classes at my club.
My question is, do you think this is a legitimate reason? If yes, then why do you think it is a legitimate reason for seeking a non-restricted LTC?
