In follow-up to my earlier thread, I received the Weaver 4-20 super slam and it was nice. I liked the glass a lot. It was very clear.

BUT, the turrets had some issues. One was floating and not tight. It wobbled up and down preventing accurate reading. The other issue was the turrets for the model do not match the pictures, or the user manual. They had screw off caps instead of capless pull up to adjust turrets. The turrets would easily pull up (too easy), but it was to reset zero, not to allow adjustment. The model # on the scope matched and I don't understand why it was so far off.

Natchez has been good to deal with, other than sending me a franken scope. They said it should not have been like that and that they don't sell seconds or gray market goods.

I don't know what to do now though and need some advice.
Here are my perceived options.

1. Have them ship me another scope and hope it is the correct design. I liked the glass and would still be happy with the scope, but am concerned there is something funny going on with the batch they are selling on sale.

2 I was going to change to the weaver euro version for $30 more in hopes that it was more likely to be proper, but then I read it has FFP. I am getting the standard duplex retical and don't need it to look any thinner than it already is (on low power). Why put FFP on a standard retical scope?

3. Open up the wallet a bit more and get the Vortex viper HS-T 6-24 for $200 more. I will lose the 4 power on the bottom but gain it on the top. It has matching clickers and retical but is SFP (18 power for ranging).

Anyone been through something similar? Advice. Thanks.

You picked that model for a reason. Have Natchez d you the one you wanted. If you are worried, ask them to check the box before they ship it.

But it was probably just a bad one from the factory. Everyone messes up occasionally.

Super Slam scopes all have exposed turrets. The Weaver Classic Extreme scope that was replaced by the Super Slam series has covered turrets.

I have both models of scopes.
This is what the turrets on a Super Slam look like.

These are the Classic Extreme turrets.

Many times there are slight variances in the scopes design and manufacturers do not want to change the manual. Pictures are notorious for late updates on websites, both retailers and manufacturers as well.

I would call weaver direct, and ask them specifics on the model you ordered and tell them what you were looking for. The style you want may not be around.

If the case, the HS-T is a sweet sweet scope for the $. Have the 4-16x44 on a 18'' 223 now and love it.

Thanks for the input. I sent it back for a refund.

Here are the pics of the one I was sent. It looks like a hybrid franken scope. I don't have a picture of inside the front bell, but it said super slam, but the turrets were of a classic extreme. Box said super slam and number 800350 on scope matches super slam number. Hard to figure.

I have my choices down to either

1. Weaver super slam 4-20x 50mm (euro 1/4 or standard 1/8 )or

2. Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x 50mm - $200 more than Weaver but gain a zero stop, probably better turrets, and the reticle is designated with MOA markings (or MRAD). I figure the warranty is also better/easier to use.

No sure which to get yet. ????

My thoughts. If the second one is bad, ask for a refund.

12many,That scope looks like a Super Slam scope, but the turrets are identical to the Classic Extreme. That make me wonder if Natchez Shooters Supply is getting Weaver to make an exclusive deal with them.
Weaver does make the Classic Extreme's for Natchez. They are the only retailer that you can get them from. They are mfg'd at Weaver's Philippines plant now,not in Japan like most of their scopes. The first Classic Extreme scope I bought is made in Japan, the one's that myself and some friends bought from Natchez are made in the Philippines.
I called Weaver and finally got the word from them about the difference.I asked them how Natchez currently offers a discontinued scope, and no other retailer has them, and why my original CE scope says Japan, while the new ones say Philippines on them.

I also purchased my Super Slam 3-15x50 from Natchez several years ago,and it is a correct model Super Slam. The one that 12many has isn't a Super Slam.
