My dept issues 14 inch 870 shotguns for patrol. Given the 4 round capacity, and the fact that I am also qualified to carry slugs for the shotgun, I usually carry an additional 9 rounds of ammo on a sling I attatch to the gun at the beginning of my shift. This has worked well for me up until now. Now however, we have a more tactically minded range staff that are putting slings on all the shotguns in the field. Normally I would say this is good, but they are permanantly attatching the slings to the shotgun, making it impossible for me to use my groovy ammo sling, thus killing the "Pancho Villa starter kit" that I was so proud of. This setup also precludes me from going back to my old slip on shell holder that went on the stock, as I cant remove the sling to put it on. I suppose I could remove the barrell and slip it on, but that would be a real pain in the rear every day. Does anyone make a shell carrier that straps onto the buttstock? Side saddle wont work due to the mounting brackets in the car. Suggestions anyone? I like to carry extra ammo on the gun in case of zombie infestation. Even more so now that they have taken away our oh so cool cargo pants. Don't laugh about the zombies either. Some of the neighborhoods I patrol look remarkably like Dawn of the Dead in the wee hours of the morning. MMMmmmmm crack.....
