I purchased a GP-100, 6in model from a guy and he had installed a full length scope mount. I really don't like scopes on my revolvers and would like to get some new sights, front and rear. Do any of you know where I can get them? I hear ruger will not sell parts to anyone but a gun smith.

Parts

You might be able to get the stock parts from Ruger, too. The parts Ruger will not sell usually have to do with the action such as hammer, hammer dog and trigger.

This could also be an opportunity to upgrade. Millett and Bowen both make rear sights and Millett makes front sights. Xpress Sights also is another option.

Ruger uses a replaceable front sight, they just slip in by pushing in on the spring-loaded pin on the muzzle. Midway USA has the Ruger front and Millet rear sights.

If I'm not mistaken, most Ruger parts are available through Brownells (things like cylinders and frames are not). At least that's the way it looked when I bought a couple small parts for my Redhawk last week.

Both of my Ruger revolvers carry Williams Firesights. I prefer them over the stock sights under any conditions, but they work especially well under low light.

EDIT: In less time than it took to type the above, I found the following -

Part #65, the rear sight base, is not available through Brownells. I'd go find a friendly gunsmith and have him/her order up the part for you.

I have a love/hate relationship with Williams Firesights on a GP100. They work well for sight alignment and aquisition, but the rear assembly sits on top of the factory rear assembly (minus the blade). This means you can't adjust it low enough for some loads. I had a real problem with my 180gr loads (about a foot high at 50yds).
