I'm strongly considering buying an Enfield 2A ( 7.62 NATO ) and have just a few questions for those of you that have & shot them or have been around others that do.

1. Has yours generally been reasonably accurate, trouble free in operation , & proved durable without having to replace parts ?

2. Experienced headspace problems in yours ?

3. Have you used the steel cased . 308 " Bear " ammo in them ? Function results ?

4. Thoughts on the issued iron sights ? ( I have no problems with the sights on Mosin rifles )

Many thanks.

Over the years I have had a total of three of these rifles. When they first hit the surplus market, I thought they were a good idea, since I like the Enfield action and .308 ammo is always plentiful. I never had any issue with the sights, they are better than most surplus Mausers and they are very durable rifles. Accuracy was a different story. I tried a variety of surplus and commercial ammo and never received good results with any of the rifles. I could keep all of the rounds on a standard issue paper plate at 100 yards, but that was a good as it got. I've since traded all of them off. I've heard it theorized that since these rifles were intended for indigenous troops of a colonized nation, the British did not really want them to have weapons on a par with their own. Any truth to this? I don't know. I now own an Enfield No 4 Mk 2 in .303 and am very pleased with it and would recommend that model as a shooter.

I am a very happy owner of a 1966 ishy enfield. I have shot both brown bear and wolf black box out of it with decent accuracy (4-5" @ 100 yards) with iron sights. It is more accurate (3-4 moa) with S&B fmj. I plan on picking up an S&K scope mount for it and see what I can do with a nice 3-9 scope. There is a seller on ebay that sells a peep sight that replaces the notch on the rear sight. For $15 is is a great investment!

Have one of the jungle carbine ones (I know there was no real jungle 2a) it's a neat gun and the only ammo I've put in it is surplus. Everyone warns about nato ammo only so why risk anything else. Be aware of the magazine issue. I know your not supposed to remove the magazine but it's nice to have a spare or that option.

Does anyone have a link to the ebay seller that has the replacement rear peep sight for the 2 A rifle?
