I have 600-700 Remington Sportsman Steel 12ga 2 3/4" hulls that originally had 1 1/8oz of #4 steel at 1550fps.

I would like to reload these hulls with basically the same load, but have been unable to find a recipe for these hulls.

Are they worth reloading?

Does anybody have a recipe to duplicate the original?

Thanks!

Thanks Jim. I was thinking the Sportsman hull was not the same as the Nitro Mag hull. I am trying to verify that they are the same. If anyone knows for sure please let me know.

I am new at this, but my studies indicate that ALL Remington hulls load the same, Nitro all the way down to Gun Club. Not all the hulls can withstand the same number of reloadings, but the interior physical dimensions are the same allowing you to share the reloading data.

This is only true of Remington.

You can definitely sub all remingtom hulls with all remington data. Go to duckhuntingchat.com and go under the reloading section and you'll get lots of info there.

What have you got for components? Let us know and I can dig through my info and get you something. I know I can find you something in that range without a problem, but need to know the wad.

Thank you for the info guys. I have been loading rifle and pistol for decades, but I am pretty new to the shotgun stuff. I have loaded a bunch of trap loads before, but the non-toxic stuff is new to me.

I duck hunt 60-70 days a year and got into reloading steel to save alittle money as I shoot around 750 rounds a season. The Sportman Steel factory loads are around $9.50 a box and work great for me in the swamps. Plus I think I can get alittle better pattern and higher velocity from the reloads.

I have not ordered the wads for these hulls yet, but I have Steel powder, CCI and Winchester primers, #4, #5, and #6 steel shot.

I've never loaded steel but I have ton's of load data for it in my shotshell loading resources. The hull you use is not specific to steel, but rather the wad and any other components necessary for a given recipe. You can load steel in any hull that will accomodate the components, and those loads are as well listed with those hulls.
Using the Sportsman Steel in place of the Nitro Mag. will go together just fine with the right wad and necessary 1/8" spacer's, usually one on top of the shot, and one under the shot. But powder is as much specific in the working load as is the hull, wad and spacers. Make sure you don't delete any components though. Loading steel is very specific to the components necessary, other wise bad things can happen, especially consideirng steel loads typically operate at significantly higher pressures than lead, therefore any unintended pressures can ruin your day!
But as I was saying, the hulls listed are primarily standard hulls such as STS, Federal Gold Medal, Rem. plastic SP's, Rem. Nitro mag., Fed. High Power, and even Federal's that have the integeral paper base wad are used for loading steel.
To list the load option's would be pointless because I don't know what powder you are using and what load you are seeking, be it 7/8 oz. , 1 1/8 oz. and so on.
Log onto Alliant's and Hogdon's web site, they have a good bunch of data for shotshell.
