Need suggestions for .22 pistol

The Ruger SR22 is a great shooter and pretty compact, but it sounds like finding one right now is a doozy.

What I would do is drop by any nearby gun store you have, see if they have anything in stock, and if they do we would be able to fill you in about those options.

My usual recommendation in matters such as this would be a Ruger Mk. II or a Beretta Model 70S.

I bought my Ruger MK1 Target, 6 7/8 inch heavy tapered barrel in 1976 for $79.00 bucks new. Awesome accuracy, eats anything ya feed it and looks brand new to this day. I installed a set of Ruger walnut thumb rest grips for comfort, and picked up an extra magazine for it. I couldn't even count the bushy tails and bunnies' it has brought home over the years. hdbiker

Sadly, no- but they pop up regularly at gun shows. Id imagine they arent too hard to find on Gunbroker as well.

They also made a compact model, as well as versions with a stainless slide and aluminum frame, or all-stainless steel including the frame.

Since you do better with short barrels, I suggest a Browning Medalist or International Medalist with a 4.5" Challenger barrel. Or, just a 4.5" Belgium Challenger if you are willing to forego the excellent dry-fire feature on the Medalist, but the Medalist/International Medalist grips are very rewarding for me in terms of tighter groups and better accuracy.

Here's mine with Left Hand grip for my youngest son. I have three Medalists and don't recall having a malfunction from any of them. I have a Buck Mark and don't consider it to be in the same league as the Medalist. The Buck Mark shoots well, but feels like a cheap modern gun compared to the Medalist.

All the Ruger Mk series pistols are great. I have the Mk III Target and Hunter (pictured). These pistols are dead reliable with everything and malfunctions so uncommon as to almost be non-existent. As to durability, I don't think I can afford to buy enough ammo to wear one out.

I picked up a G44 this past year. I have only fired about a thousand rounds through it but had no issues so far. I like it a lot.

My wife likes her Ruger SR22. 3.5" barrel, reliable and accurate.

I have a Beretta Neos, 6" barrel, but they offer a 4.5" barrel also. The grip has a funky angle to it. But the top has a rail that is easy to place a red dot on top. It's a striker fired, with and a light trigger.

Sportsman's Warehouse show the 4.5" barrel in stock @ $249.

Only things I haven’t seen advised were a Neos or a conversion kit. Since you have the tremors and they seem to be amplified by the longer guns, I would be looking squarely at a conversion kit for one of the guns I already own. Pick one that you shoot well and find the conversion. You mentioned the micro 380 as a gun that works for you, I’m curious as to why the browning 1911-22 was so off putting as they are very similar in form and controls. I would be looking at that option very heavily, and on that note I would also be looking at Llama pistols as well. I know they made small bore micro 1911s and I believe some of them were 22lr.

Since I sold all the other 22s, I don't have one to convert, but good suggestion anyway. Sold the Browning 1911 because my wife didn't like it (it was hers) and it didn't fit my hand well, so sold it to buy her current pistol. The balance and weight of the Kimber 380 seems to suite me. My Sig P320 9mm agrees with me, probably because of weight and over-all balance. Have never found a .22 that suits me as well, which is the target of my current search. Just talked to a friend of mine who has several higher end target pistols he has said I can try. So, predictably, I'll probably spend a good deal more money than I originally thought.

The Neos Carbine Kit is a cool concept. Light and accurate for what it is.

You might notice the tan piece of velcro I put on the comb of the buttstock as a cheek indicator so I wouldn't put my face too close to the reciprocating slide.

My wife got me one for my Bday when they first came out. Saw the carbine kit and hesitated. After some time I decided to have the kit as it would be handy. Nope, can't find one anywhere.

Cool concept, but I was fairly new to the game and not versed on the issues. Now you cannot find any such kit around. I imagine if you do see one from time to time, they are much more that the original cost.

I hardly shoot my NEOS now. I noticed a few years back that there was a recall on the NEOS about the safety and sent mine in. They sent me a whole new one back.

Since then I have only taken it to the range once. The trigger on the new NEOS is terrible. Gritty lots of takeup and travel. Haven't shot it since.

I guess it depends on your use.

I have a few. If you are looking for just a range toy, the Ruger Mark IV would fit the bill. It has an adjustable rear site, excellent ergonomics and it's a Ruger.

If you are looking for CC (wife maybe?), then I would say either the SR22 or Keltec P17. Over both of those, while I like the way the Ruger feels (solid), I will say the P17 is WAY more reliable. The P17 one has fired everything I have fed it to date with not one malfunction, which is rare for a 22. I will add that only the Ruger Mark IV has been as reliable.

If you're looking for a trainer that's similar in function and size to what you'll carry, then I'd say the GSG 22 or something similar such as the TX22 or M&P.

I've considered the Glock 44, so please make suggestions comparable to the Glock 44.

I can't make a suggestion "comparable" to the Glock 44 because I don't have experience with 22LR pistols that are similar to the Glock 44, but I can say this: I love my Glock 44. It has been reliable with every type of ammo I've fed it, and it's more accurate (or "precise" if you prefer) than I can shoot it - which by the way is better than I ever imagined I could be with a DAO 22 pistol.
I carried a little Smith Model 63, 22LR revolver since the 80s as my "kit" gun. It was my fishing, plinking and "just because" gun. But I replaced my Model 63 Smith with my Glock 44. Besides that, once I got my Glock 44, I liked it so much, I went out and bought myself a Glock 19 Gen 5 (same shape and size) for EDC.
