First off, this is not for me. I'm inquiring for a buddy who's not forum oriented. We're looking for something similar to a S&W 3913, in that it's a single stack, 9mm and not too large. The problem with the 3913 is that his budget tops out at about $400. My 3913 and most that I've seen in good condition are a good bit more than that. He needs the gun for work, but can not wear it openly. He's currently carrying an LCP but wants something larger.

Any suggestions for something similar to a 3913 but for $400 or less will be appreciated.

Everyone dumps on them, but my Fathers Taurus PT 709 has been brilliant thus far. Just under 900 rounds so far and no failures. Trigger seems to be a touch better now than new also.

i was gonna recomend a kahr k-9 but that is out of the price range that you have, unless you can maybe find one used.

I've been carrying a KelTec PF-9 for the past two years. It's a bargain basement 9mm pocket pistol, but it works and it hits what I aim at.

i just got rid of my PF9 for a PT709.
the pf9 is no fun to shoot and I dont care for the DAO trigger

S&W 3913. Reliable, accurate compact, and looks good doing all that!

I referenced the 3913 in my original post. We need one for $400 or less.

The gun that jumped immediately to mind was the H&K P7 until I read your price limit...even the Le trade-ins are more than that.

At the lower price point, I'd look seriously at the Kahr CW9 in DAO and the LE trade-in Sig P6 (service version of their 225) for a DA/SA trigger like your S&W 3913.

The Sig P6 is every bit as reliable as the S&W and offers superior accuracy. I'd change out the mainspring as the German Police spec'd a 24lb spring  and it would run just as well with a 19lb...or even an 18lb. They have some holster wear, but every one I've seen...about 12 (I own 2)...has been solid

Not certain about price, but...

Walther PPS 9 mm Single stack. easy and fun to shoot. also proving that reliability issues seem solved

I agree but in my opinion "fun to shoot" and "single stack CC" have never gone hand in hand.
yeah, but I think the PF9 is particularly crappy, most likely due to its weight. I guess you cant have your cake and eat it too.

Hey, wbwanzer

The 3913 was succeeded by the CS9 or CHiefs SPecial and now in
current production the S&W 908 - and it is real close to your
stated budget - it's got a black 'economy' or plain blue/black finiehs
8 shot single stack Used under your budget

Seems to me the ideal pistol would be the Walther PPS but the best price I have been able to find is about $600.00.

You might see if you could find a Bersa Thunder ultra compact 9mm. It hits your price point but I believe it has a double stack magazine.

The Ruger KP95 also has a good price but, once again, it's a double-stack magazine

By something bigger, I assume you mean caliber. Bud's Gun Shop has the Smith & Wesson Model 637 or Model 642, five-shot revolvers chambered for .38 Special +P that is definitely more powerful than the LCP's .380ACP. The little S&W snubbie conceals very well. Bud's price is $418.00 and they do offer financing. You will have to pay a local FFL to receive the gun. I've seen the 442 locally for $449.00.

For the price I would check out a Keltec PF9 and have lots of money for ammo. I carry the p3at and love it.

IF not I do not think you could go wrong with a trade in Sig P6.

+ Kahr CW9. It's only six dollars over and I'm sure you can find someone to do a cheap transfer. If not a used one would definitely be in his range. For the money you are going to have a hard time finding a better cc 9mm. I have one and I cannot say enough about it for cc.
