Help me choose a single stack 9mm

another choice

Larger but also concealable is the Beretta 92 M models, single stack compact version of the 92 version.

Hey marcus, is the 4053 a single stack? If so what are the dimensions of it? I saw that KYimports has them for $289, is that the one you got?

The 4053 is a double stack and the same size as my 4013 pictured below next to my 3913 ...

Forget all these ergonomic pistols with good sights and fast magazine releases... get yourself a CZ-52 with a replacement 9x19 barrel!!!

Phred, yes and no. 4053s were made both single AND double stack. Mine is an earlier single stack model (from KY Imports!). I got one with bright night sights for $300. :D I`m really happy with it. It`s become my favorite CCW. Marcus

I would highly recommend Kahr's K9. I like the .40 and have had 3 of them that all performed perfectly.

I've got the K9 black stainless w/Night sights. Really ergonomic. Shoots well. About as good a double action trigger as I could have hoped for. The only thing is, I'm still getting used to the idea of having a CCW without a safety. I really like the thin slide. Not very bulky at all.

Really good gun.

Well my first choice would by a P7M8.
But that may be a bit more than you wanted to spend.
Second would be a STI LS or BLS
Third I would go for the 225. The one you felt was the exception not the rule. The 225 is argueably the best of the Classic Sigs.
Here is a pic of the BLS and LS

I need some help in the form of information about the Kahr K9. I'm an older fella and I find it hard to rack the slide on some/most semi autos. I've been thinking about buying a Kahr K9, for various reasons, but I have never handled it and wonder about how hard is to rack the slide and how heavy/long the trigger pull. Will any one reading this thread please give me some information on this. Thanks, Pete (The Oldfella)

Oldfella, my grandfather`s favorite carry gun is a Kahr K-9 Elite. No problems racking the slide (for him at least). The trigger pull is pretty light (maybe 7lbs.,lighter than almost any revolver) and smooth. Nice little gun. Marcus

single stack 9mm

I just acquired a Springfield Armory Ultra Compact 9mm. I'm thinking this will be THE 9mm for me. Check them out before you buy.

Hi Guys,

I haven't seen or handled a Rorbaugh yet, but this is the smallest 9mm I know of. Too bad it's no longer made. Also, this one has reliability problems, and until Scott McDougall and company get up and running again, it's range use only.

P.S. can someone tell me how to post a picture, or at least how to reduce the size of the picture I attached?

plnkr1234, the Colt Pocket Nine and the Kahr MK9 are about the same size. I handled both at the store side by side. While I preferred the heavier pull and over-all operations of the Pocket Nine, it's reliability issues kept me from buying one. I would definitely like to see Colt start selling it again (along with the Magnum Carry).

I'd get the Beretta type M...but given your choices I'd go with the Kahr. I've never liked the S&W trigger pull on semi-autos.

I would definitely go with a 3rd generation S&W auto. I have had several and all were reliable, accurate and had sweet triggers. Just ordered ordered a used 3953 (compact DAO) for less than $250 and a like new 3914 (blue compact DA/SA) for $300. How can you go wrong with a high quality, ultra thin, 9mm at those prices? You can't.

Alan Fud,

I agree, both the PM9 and Pocket 9 are pretty close in size. The Pocket 9 is a little slimmer and more rounded in the slide which makes it feel smaller. The chunky rubber grips are thicker on the Pocket 9 compared to the PM9's polymer frame, but some custom thin grips would fix that. To my hand, the Pocket 9 feels marginally smaller and comfortable in the pocket, but it's a close call. Given the spotty reliability of my speciment, however, I would only carry the PM9 for defense.

MLK,

I really like the S&W 3900 series, too. The PM9 is my usual pocket carry piece, but the 3913 is what I usually carry concealed on my hip. It's small and flat, but big enough to hold onto and shoot accurately. It's been very reliable and has a good, smooth trigger pull as well. I think they are the most under rated compact 9mm's out there.

I liked mine so much, I even got an extra 3919 for when my original wears out, although I don't think it ever will. I've put cases of ammo through mine. I also couldn't resist getting one of the new TSW models. I don't really like the accessory rail, though, and I don't think it's any better than my original 3913.

For the times when I want to really feel like a spook, there's always the ASP (the original chopped S&W), but I can barely hit the side of a barn with it.

P7M8 is the way to go. Can't beat it as a concealed carry CCW. And the Kahr Pm9 is nice.
