I recently bought an old Taurus revolver from Century (a police buyback, I assume), which they advertised as a model 66. When I got it, it didn't look like any Taurus 66 I had ever seen before. It was definitely a medium frame Taurus .357 but there were no model markings anywhere on the revolver I could see, only the Taurus logo and a caliber designation on the barrel. It had fixed sights, not adjustable and the standard wood grips. It had a much shorter serial number (4-digit, starting with "55") than any other Taurus revolver I had seen and when I called Taurus to ask them to ID the revolver they told me they had no such serial number in their database and if its a very old revolver they wouldn't be able to help anyway! I suppose its likely to be a model 65 since it has fixed sights, but it has other oddball things like ridges/flutes inside the cylinder hollows and along the top that Ive never seen in any model of Taurus revolver.
I'll upload some not-so-good photos of the revolver to this post... can anyone tell me what I might have exactly? Most importantly I need to determine this with certainty because the revolver came with a hammer that had been bobbed/filed off and I would prefer a full standard spur hammer on it. Where might I be able to find a replacement hammer for this revolver other than Numrich, Jack First, or Bobs Gun Shop in AR? Any online Taurus parts dealers who are easier to deal with than those I just mentioned? BTW, I can't send it back since Century made me a deal to keep it rather than go through the hassle of shipping it back to them.
Thanks in advance
