Hello,

I have a few questions about my Ruger M77 MKII Synthetic in .30-06. I stripped it to clean it after a long, wet, cold, hunting season here in NE Montana. I was reassembling the rifle and had some problems. I tightened down the diagonal bedding screw on the forend, then the two bedding screws fore and aft of the trigger guard. When I was finished, the floor plate would jam shut, and the little retention lever on the trigger guard was stuck back, which never happened before. Obviously, this indicated that the postitioning of the floorplate and the trigger guard were not correct. So, I loosened the three bedding screws and tapped the trigger guard back a little and re-tightened. However, If I really tightened again, the floor plate would jam up again. Perhaps, I have a bent bedding screw, or I am over-tighteneing.

So, My question is:
1) Is there a proper torque to apply to the bedding screws? Is there a proper order in which to tighten them? (Seems to me the diagonal screw would be first, but which goes secod and third?)

Any other tips would be much appreciated.
