just bought one took the stock off then i noticed a crack along the inside and outside by the trigger guard and mag floor plate, its probly 2 to 3 inches long and can also be seen on the outside of the stock, now i never over tightened the screws this was the first time i ever took the stock off and ive only had it for a hour, would savage take just take my stock back for a return i dont want to have to send the whole gun. it would seem that they over tightened the screws at the factory since i just bought this from a store

I would give Savage a call first thing in the morning. Man what a shame for a new rifle to be flawed. I would also call the store you bought the gun from. Given the fact that you left the store with it no returns can be issued. However i would think some kind of discount is certainly in order. The gun will most likley have to be shipped back to Savage for warrenty work. In the mean time your out $400 bucks and a rifle that is flawed.

Don't get to discouraged the Mark II series of rifles from Savage are grade A firearms. I am sure that Savage will take care of you promptly from my experience with their customer service.

Possibly you could just ship the stock. I would be afraid that if the gun go banged around bad enough to damage the stock something else could be wrong as well.

On the other had it may have left the factory in that condition as well. Perhaps our buddy inspector #12 was on break when your gun was boxed and it was missed. Either way until tomorrow your screwed.

I was eyebaling one of these rifles the other night at Dicks. But of course they are zip tied shut and trigger locked. I have thoughts of picking one up but I am awful leary when I can cycle the bolt, inspect the action, dry fire, ect. I understand the safety aspect at a store like Dicks but I got burned hard on a Remington 700 cdl in .260 rem. This is probably the only reason a TR has not come home with me already.

Good luck and let us know

i called savage and they told me to sent it in and it will probly be there for a week before they send a new stock out, but at least i dont have to send the gun. how should i ship it?

dunno if they have something like that at the post office or not. The henry box would be fine or just take it to a shipping store and they will box it up for you and ship it. Don't over think it, you just need it in a box with some padding around it.

I got a new Savage 92F in .17HMR and its stock cracked too. I sent it back for a second reason too. Appears that one of the scope bases was mounted off center, resulting in the scope pointing feet off target at 100yards.

I mailed back the whole firearm and Savage was nice enough to send me a completely new rifle with a new scope mounted and sighted in. Most probably they could not drill another hole in the receiver to position the mount properly.

If you only mail back the stock, the shipment details are greatly simplied. You can send it FedEx, or UPS, or USPS, or whatever. If you send back the whole gun you will have to mail it according to all the firearm mailing restrictions.
Good luck,
Michael

sent back just the stock it was about 20 bucks, but still better then buying a new one, now i wait a week hopefully and no more.
